Totally weird little article about a guy trying to track down the globe that really belonged to Hitler as opposed to all the ones in various museums that are claimed to be the globe in question.

It's sort of fascinating because aside from the Hitler factor there's the "when globes mattered" factor.

When I was a kid, I remember my parents taking me to some very big deal store to look at the globes and get my first globe, which was, I think $34.99. And it was made clear that being a successful grown up meant having a serious office with a serious desk with a very serious globe.

That globe is still in my parents house, and wow, I guess the countries are all out of wack on it now.

Have you been the Mapparium here in Boston?

I did not know about a mapparium. Oh, also, can I get you to bring us something from Burdocks? specifically the little drinking chocolate set with the whisk? I'll totally have $$ for you when you get here if you can work it into your schedule. It's a source of great interest to Patty and I.

Giant WWI globe, acoustically perfect, you can go into it via a walkway and see the world frozen in time. They recently cleaned every piece for the first time in years, so it's gorgeous.

Re: Burdick's, doubtful I will make it to Harvard Square tomorrow, but if so, I will check. They are still renovating (!) and I am not sure what piece of them is open.

The shipping is pretty exorbitant. I am sure I will be passing through Harvard next week, and I am going to the p.o. anyway to send Ebay stuff. Do you need it ASAP?

OH no, it's not important at all. It will just cause much hilarity once we actually have it.

Every once in a while, I nudge the powers that be at my employer, suggesting that since we're in the geography business, we ought to have a nice classy globe in the reception area.

And one of the corporate executives says, "you mean the kind that you can open up and there's a bar inside?"
