Why don't we just cut to the chase and decide that being a woman is, in and of itself, a disease?

Happy Birthday. Sorry the world thinks we're diseased!

I just loved how they described pregnancy, childbirth and breastfeeding as "severe physical trauma" and not the natural phenomena that they are.

I can understand on one level the desire for surgery when you're frustrated with your physical appearance. Some people just can't or won't accept a redifinition of beauty and of self, which is sad. But to add to that by describing motherhood as severe trauma just adds a whole 'nuther disturbing level.

I really can't think of any articulate response to the article other than OMG WTF?

At what point did we completely give up any interest in actually experiencing life instead of just wanting to take a very high quality staged picture every so often and just referring to those?

Happy Birthday.

Thank you!

And yeah. I don't have a cogent response yet either. Although it has something to do with this feeling that the only way to suceed at being a woman is to opt out of the dominant culture in a pretty extreme way (which I've done more or less by accident) or to opt in to such a degree one ceases to exist.

I think adobe photo shop is too blame. But seriously, this type of misogynistic crap has got to stop.

Society is always going to be the suxxorz, keep fighting the good fight. I came across this in my morning blog-link jamboree, quite apropos:

Best damn commercial I've seen. One day someone will get smart and sue these people like they have the tobacco companies for pushing people to enjoy self inflicted death.

Hi there!

Is it weird that the fact that the doctor's name is "Doctor Stoker" makes me envision a stereotypical Hollywood vampire beckoning women into his office so that he can "fix" them?

I personally feel that masculinity is the disease. I would simply LOVE to have my "condition" listed as a genetic disorder. It would certainly enable me to get the care and treatment that I need, not to mention save me from a lot of unjust punishment!

"You left the light on in the bathroom and didn't pick your towels up off the floor again, honey!"
"What?! I ... I can't believe that you be so insensitive as to bring ... my condition into this! You KNOW that I have testosterism! [sobs]"

Of course I can't imagine what kind of TREATMENT I'd get for this disease ... and now that I think about it, I'm not sure I'd want it!! :(

I am dumbfounded. Just...I can see pushing the tummy tuck/liposuction of the fat that cannot be exercised off under the arguments that excess fat at the waist is associated with higher rates of heart disease, but... Argh! And yet, I cannot deny a certain smug joy in the months immediately after giving birth, when I was back in pre-pregnancy clothes within two weeks, whether it was due more to genetics or healthy habits I maintained throughout pregnancy.

Whoa.

Also, hey, it's your birthday, too! (It's my partner's birthday as well, though he was born a year before you.) Happy birthday!

that's just twisted. It's almost like all those Bashioum Cosmetic Surgery commercial where the rubinesque women from painting are being fixed on screen with tucks and such.

You're all going to be banned, like asbestos.

Until then, though, have a happy birthday!

I personally stayed away from the "ravages of pregnancy" by not having babies.

Plastic surgery and the cosmetic industry don't get money from this girl either.

I will be passing this on a gender and pop culture instructor I know. I can hear the discussions in her classroom already.

Hope your special day was delightful.

I couldn't even get through that! And I'm someone who isn't opposed to cosmetic surgery in principle. Vile. Utterly.
