Last night my father sort of went missing, but I shrugged it off assuming that he just bribed someone to let him stay overnight at the hospital with mom.

It turns out there was a fire at the hospital and the hospital was put on lockdown so he got trapped there.

So everyone is fine, but what the hell?

I know it's not all that amusing while it's happening to your family, but I have to tell you, it'd make a great sitcom episode.

They lock people in when a building catches fire???

On the surface that sounds a bit odd LOL but I guess the fire was under control then and it was a security measure.

It's a huge sprawling facility with many interconnected buildings, so I think it's a bit like containing fire on a vessel -- fire doors come down to prevent it form spreading, so while the fire is fought in one area people in unaffected areas can't run around and make shit more difficult. What not one has told me yet is if he was with my mother at the time or got stuck in some other part of the building (the cafeteria is like a mile away).

One would think bribing the staff would have been an easier way to get to stay overnight than starting a fire...

Glad everyone is ok.

Ha!

Can I just say how much I am looking forward to this weekend? Because seriously while this event is never as relaxing as I want it to be and always emphasizes to me my disatisfaction with the world we do live in, wow, I need some serious frigging escapism.

Yeah, really.

I'm hoping we're approaching a point where it'll be more relaxing, with responsibilities better divided and understood and a stronger core of competent dancers. Right?

I think that's probably true, but I'm bringing a group of people I've been coordinating for (including last minute shoe purchases), but yeah, hopefully, I think things are starting to settle down with the event itself.

Well you know Kali, but Patty and Edie will be new, yes. (and you won't believe what we used for a dress for Edie who is too tall for our loaners).

There was a fire when L was working there. The halogen lamps can catch fabric on fire if someone tosses something up there because they're so damn hot.

Also, a lot of cancer patients (especially lung cancer) are smokers. They're not supposed to smoke indoors, but people do stupid shit in the name of being sneaky.

Since you're laughing at it a bit now, I feel OK in chuckling a little. I am reminded of the time I lived in Louisville, there was a tornado and I thought, "dude! My first tornado evar! I can has go downstairz and look out teh windowz!111 And I take teh elavatarz!"

Well, I got trapped in the elevator for about five minutes when the power went out in the building. It was funny as hell two hours later, and really so very, very a moment in the life of Jo the absent-minded Slytherin. :3
