- Barn Dance was FANTASTIC last night, although Patty and I had bad dance ettiquette and just danced with each other all evening. The dance is entirely cool with with us being the gay, but it's not a gender-role free dance (which, actually, I prefer -- I like the performance of gender, even if I also like to screw with it) and the guy who runs it generally thinks it too complicated to demonstrate stuff in a set with us or for us to be at the top of a set.

I get where he's coming from with inexperienced dancers underfoot, and lord knows that event has a lot of them (but they are fearless inexperienced dancers), but Patty and I spent so much time pushing and pulling people into place (we have suddenly gotten very very good at this dancing), you sort of think the dude could just run with it. We all good naturedly tease each other about it, and part of the reason I really like the dance is the degree to which people may not be comfortable with the dancing or other things going on, but everyone takes that as their own problem and laughs about it.

- Meanwhile, I am loving this thing going around in which peopel pledge to only buy handmae gifts for the holidays and also request the same for themselves. It stands for everything I believe in culturally. There's just one problem -- I'm promoting a book, which isn't, you know, handmade, that I wrote this holiday season.

- Friday!

OK, let's do what the ancient wisdom of the ages has taught us... RATIONALIZE. OF COURSE your book qualifies as handmade! Did you not spend countless hours crafting each word with loving care? It absolutely qualifies... *grin*

I love the idea of homemade gifts... I am making Medieval Illumination inspired 'display scrolls' for those on my list, personally... which is really just an excuse to wallow in my hobby... Of course, I have to use the term 'inspired' considering I have created an entire 'series' I call Modern Bard... So far, I have used the old idea of handpainted borders and calligraphy combined with the words and wisdom of Jimmy Buffett, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, George Harrison, James Taylor and Lou Reed, among others... *grin*

Did you used to be polyamorous? Forgive me if I'm being too invasive.

This is one of the most surreal conversations I've ever had.

Um, the short answer is yes, but that really doesn't begin to cover that narrative. It's never really been a conscious decision one way or another in my life and it's sort of hard to talk about without getting into the history of my self-esteem and what I thought I'd ever have.

But yes, my life is different now.

Because you asked me a normal question (how did we meet) that had an entirely ridiculous answer, and it's just funny that the tonal quality of normalacy continues through that.

I had a absolutely great time at Barn Dance last night. Thanks for letting me in on the "dorktastic awesomeness"!

I agree with the first poster: of course your book is handmade! The spirit behind the "let's only give handmade items" is about putting a lot of your very essence into the gift, spending time creating the gift, etc. Maybe it should be re-stated: "Let's give gifts of our own creations this year."

Well, to me, it's about getting away from our mass produced society, and that's what books are today, so it's just complicated.

Ahhh...true. Being super intelligent is a blessing but also a curse, in that your ability to analyze situations well leads to an overwhelming amount of possibilities and consequences.

BTW, good luck on LJ Idol, I'm cheering you on!
