- Barn Dance was FANTASTIC last night, although Patty and I had bad dance ettiquette and just danced with each other all evening. The dance is entirely cool with with us being the gay, but it's not a gender-role free dance (which, actually, I prefer -- I like the performance of gender, even if I also like to screw with it) and the guy who runs it generally thinks it too complicated to demonstrate stuff in a set with us or for us to be at the top of a set.

I get where he's coming from with inexperienced dancers underfoot, and lord knows that event has a lot of them (but they are fearless inexperienced dancers), but Patty and I spent so much time pushing and pulling people into place (we have suddenly gotten very very good at this dancing), you sort of think the dude could just run with it. We all good naturedly tease each other about it, and part of the reason I really like the dance is the degree to which people may not be comfortable with the dancing or other things going on, but everyone takes that as their own problem and laughs about it.

- Meanwhile, I am loving this thing going around in which peopel pledge to only buy handmae gifts for the holidays and also request the same for themselves. It stands for everything I believe in culturally. There's just one problem -- I'm promoting a book, which isn't, you know, handmade, that I wrote this holiday season.

- Friday!

I agree with the first poster: of course your book is handmade! The spirit behind the "let's only give handmade items" is about putting a lot of your very essence into the gift, spending time creating the gift, etc. Maybe it should be re-stated: "Let's give gifts of our own creations this year."

Well, to me, it's about getting away from our mass produced society, and that's what books are today, so it's just complicated.

Ahhh...true. Being super intelligent is a blessing but also a curse, in that your ability to analyze situations well leads to an overwhelming amount of possibilities and consequences.

BTW, good luck on LJ Idol, I'm cheering you on!
