Groceries! This includes a chicken pot pie for P, and things like mozarella, prosciutto, gaufrettes and chocolate hazelnut gelato for the house. Who says Living Without has to suck?

Speaking of, time to write up some more gluten-free food reviews for AssociatedContent.com. It's a task I find it a little hard to get motivated for, but showing these companies the love to make sure they continue to exist while also making myself $$ is a good thing.

Read about the horror of grading student papers here. Shouldn't this type of stuff also have its own Internet destination? I'm telling you HitchAMammothToAPlow.com needs to happen. I'd wear the t-shirt!

Remember when I was all, "Oh hey, this Lexicon wank sucks, let's go back to the wank about Dumbledore being gay"? I take it all back. I hate this dead!gay!Dumbeldore wank.

Things that are cool about LJIdol 1: I found out about a local con I just have to go to (thanks [livejournal.com profile] n_decisive).

Things that are cool about LJIdol 2: After one of those conversations that I thought was going to become a totally irksome LJ disagreement, the other party and I actually figured out what each other were talking about and are now on each other's friendslists.

Things that are cool about LJIdol 3: Wow. Votes. I'm a little flabbergasted. Thanks y'all.

My husband and I are chortling over "hitch a mammoth to a plow." (He's in academia.)

I am perennially academia adjacent (the girlfriend, whose post that is, is getting her PhD; my writing partner is getting hers, and my best friend will be applying to programs soon as well) and it really jsut seems to sum up the whole horror, even for those not in archaeology.

"Academia adjacent" is an excellent description of my position as well. I am surrounded by academians, but somehow it took my an extra decade to finish me bachelors degree, whereupon I promptly got a job far removed from academia. I like learning, but school... well, it wasn't my best subject.

You're more than welcome. You know, I wonder if Susan from Teaberry's would consider doing a few gluten-free items for their cream tea? If you'd be interested in going, I'll email her and ask. (I'm not part of the SalonCon team, but I know Susan from coordinating an event that she participated in.)

I would be, and I'd be happy to help point them to gluten-free resources and the like.

Where I went to college, on a full ride, we were taught that Dinosaurs were God's way of providing Adam and even enough brute force to farm the Garden of Eden. I am completely serious. We were taught that they all were there to plow the earth for man.

It was frightening and that alone is the reason my kid will be yanked from any class that puts creationism or intelligent design on the same plane as a real scientific theory.

T-Rexs as plow horses.

I knew a Religious Right'er whose explanation for dinosaur fossils in the earth was that God put them there to test our faith.

Good Goddesses.

That is extremely common view. In fact at that great university I attended it was exactly what was taught.

Since the earth is flat and masturbation causes blindness, I guess that explanation makes sense after all.
