This was horrible disturbing when it happened and continues to be...

Sadly, it puts a shadow on All Internet relationship...

S was telling me about this a few days ago. That twisted bitch needs to go to jail. I don't see how pushing someone to suicide when you are aware of their medical condition isn't grounds for a trial.

So late? It's been practically everywhere else. FOX picked it up first, then CNN, and ABC had it awhile ago... I didn't even think whether or not a Times story had happened as, um, I've made myself stop blogging about it in part after being told that I was being "disrespectful" to other dead people and to other "important" world events *shrug*

Wow. And that sick woman was even laughing about "messing" with this poor young woman.

And they say that depressives are the sick, disturbed ones?

It was in People several weeks ago, I think. Or maybe it was last week.

I first heard about it on your Blog. (at least I think I did)

WTF? What the hell is wrong with people?

Referring to the post and the comment--give people a uniform or an icon to hide behind and watch the evil ooze out.

For reasons at least marginally unknown to me, I tend to be a troll magnet. Probably because I'm unabashedly elitist, pretty successful and yet not reticent about my insecurities.

I was sort of expecting LJ Idol to bring a new spate of this shit (not from anyone _in_ LJ Idol, but it too is something of a magnet for nasty lurkers), and this is right on schedule.

Doesn't LJ have a TOS covering this sort of thing?

Only if they repeatedly comment by creating fake journals. Otherwise we're told we have the tools to handle it ourselves.

I guess that's part of the price of being more out in the open. Still fucked up.

Oh, but then they clutch their pearls over fanfic?

I don't get it...

WTF is he even talking about? Nothing in his post makes any sense except the screaming misogyny.

The second line in his comment seems to refer to the news story, though the first line hurts my brain with "WTF?"ness. I browsed his journal briefly, too, and it was just as random and head-scratch-y.

Now that was strange....

Nut I suppose, in some way, being inflammatory without basis like this serves to garner more attention... from people who read the comment and are vaguely curious as to what the hell he's going on about. Not like their journal helped.

I'm actually rather amazed that someone had the apparent patience to maintain a journal of gibberish for more than a couple of days. Well, that was a minute and a half of my life I'll never be able to get back.

Errr...what misogyny? Do you know something about the troll which isn't available from reading the one comment?

I love that she's referred to as a "preferred woman"!

That person really has far too much time on their hands and too much of chemical brain imbalance to go with it.

Racheline, I'm as puzzled and frustrated as you are about your status as troll target du jour.

I also find this really telling that the troll chose to post this threat on an entry about a young girl who committed suicide when online 'friends' told her the world would be better off without her. My big question is ... did LJ miss the memo about this, somehow? When this has become a national issue and should be cause for all journaling services to think about how they protect people from users who advocate their deaths by suicide?

What is LJ going to do if people start flagging a minor's LJ just to harrass her/him? And if people post messages like the one sent to Megan Meier in the journals of minors (and the one posted to you here, R.), will they just ignore the situation? Because telling clinically depressed and/or suicidal teens and children (AND adults) to kill themselves does way, WAY more damage than showing them a picture of a boob or two people having sex.

What the fuck is LJ thinking?!?!?

You should really post those thoughts over on the LJ biz thread. Because they're seriously good points.

Mmmkay :D

Will make an longer LJ post after work today. Because I think it's these kinds of things - and not a picture of Draco who may or may not be 17 or 20 having sex with Snape and Lucius - that LJ *should* be protecting minors from.
