8 billion things to do.

Will rant on 6A/LJ later.

But if you want to watch them sail the fail boat some more: http://community.livejournal.com/lj_biz/243697.html

They shouldn't have designed that flag so nicely.

I want to click it just because it's kinda pretty.

Fucking LJ, man.

ETA: I also like how you can't flag comments. That seems like an even worse idea.

I can't say I'm especially pleased by this one. Didn't you endlessly lecture them about the dangers of vague definitions?

What is an adult concept? Textual sexuality? Talking about politics? Can I get a May Be Boring For Minors tag?

How does that Calvin and Hobbes dialogue go?

"'Adult themes.' I guess that means stuff like voting and taxes."

I flagged LJ's own announcment about flags for "offensive content". I hope I'm not the only one clicking that little flag button on their asses.

I happily marked my journal as "adult concepts." Because, hey, y'know, I'm an adult. Of course, the majority of my journal (with the exception of like five entries) is "friends only" and I'm pretty sure I don't have any minors on my readers list. That said, having three teenagers of my own, I know how incredibly annoying they are, so the idea of not allowing teen wankery to comment or see my entries or comments suits me just fine. As for the obvious resulting abuse of flagging everything and anything, I'm not likely to run into that -- I'm too low under the radar.

I expect there to be mass rioting though.

Hm. They seem to have forgotten to let one flag for "crimethink." That should be cleared up soon enough.

wasn't it thoughtcrime, not crimethink?

"Crimethink" was the Newspeak word, I believe.

Sigh, I just don't have the energy for all this crap again. Still, at least 6A have neatly answered the question of whether I should renew my paid account next week or not.

Also, I'm wondering if it will become a badge of honour to get your journal flagged. We could make it into a new LJ sport. It could be a bit like geocaching or paintballing - you'd get points for how many people you inappropriately tag or something. Bear with me, I haven't quite worked out the details yet!

It would be kind of a short game--apparently each user gets five flags per day to use. So horde your outrage wisely! You wouldn't want to spend your five flags frivolously and end up not being able to protect dewy young eyes from nasty, abrassive pornography when it appears!

God, what a stupid policy.

Ah, but that might just force us to be more tactical with how we used our flags. There would have to be some kind of grading system - maybe people who had friends-only journals would be worth extra points because you'd have to get onto their friends-lists in order to flag them.

It is a bit loopy, isn't it. I can't see how on earth it's going to work in RL, especially since the Abuse Team are already widely considered to be a bit crap and unaccountable.

What a pisser.

Wrong in so many ways.

I agree with several other folks on this thread. Does "adult concepts" cover things like unemployment and dealing with serious illness, 'cause if that's the case, I might as well flag down my entire LJ right away and beat the rush...

I'm wondering if that's where the gay people are going to get shoved. LJ will say no, but when people start flagging what will really happen?

I also wonder when depressives are going to get banned for talking about self-injury and suicide attempts/ideation.

God knows that they aren't going to do jack about people who go into depression comms and tell suicidal posters to "cut down the street, not across the street!"

In case you only read comments from your email and are all "I don't want to open new tab [[whines]]", I'll quote the same reply I gave rm:

"I was thinking gay people and depressives would get shoved over in the Explicit Adult Content section. Along with suicide.

Interesting, since I was 16 when I first tried to kill myself (obviously, I failed, and I'm fine now ;))."

Though I do wonder if discussing what antidepressants work best for the most amount of people would be considered explicit adult, since only adults are supposed to be on antidepressants (they'll fuck with your brains, yo! Make it so you no longer wanna off yourself from the gene pool!).

Which is fascinating to me, because lots of people on the depression com lately have said they started anti-depressants in their teens, some as early as 12 or 11. Generally they aren't supposed to be given until you're over 18, but with an extremely depressed children and adolescents, I guess it's often a case of trying medication or risking a successful suicide.

:D Oh I do read comments in both email and LJ, but if I don't get a reply to a comment in a particular thread, I often stop watching it/get distracted and forget I said anything.

Yeah wouldn't it be interesting if a comm like depression got put on adult status? Particularly as most of the people who show up there are minors looking for reasons NOT to self-injure or attempt suicide?

I'm so glad that you failed in your attempt! Seriously. Hearing that people failed to end their lives and are doing better now makes my day, no matter if I've known them for years or if we've just met.
