There's been some commentary among those who saw the original B'way production that Rickman's Turpin sings with much more vulnerability than his predecessor.
Rickman has also mentioned that he had to really work to hit those high notes. :c)
And yeah, it sounds really vulnerable. Which doesn't surprise me, as that a Tim Burton thing, to put weird vulnerability into his male characters. Nice, anyway, to see Rickman doing what he does so well without seeming like he's phoning it in.
