Because I spent a large portion of the weekend being an airhead, I forgot ot note that on Friday [livejournal.com profile] alexpgp, braved the horrors of Flatiron district parking and came to visit me at the scary Germans and taped my question for Gather.

We had an all too brief gab session and then taped the Gather thing which was successfl, I think, on the third take (first one was lost due to tecniclal difficulties, second one was lost due to my inability to construct a sentence).

So that is here for anyone who wants to see me forget everything I've ever learnt in an on camera class ever: http://www.gather.com/viewVideo.jsp?id=11821949021856487

You didn't ask here but I'll gift you with my answer here now.

I think the state and "marriage" should part ways. That would help clear up the blurring between social and fiscal aspects of a couple. The government has no jurisdiction over love.

I think any couple should be able to legally enter a union and receive all benefits reserved now for married people. Marriage should be a separate entity that recognizes the couple's promises to each other in whatever social setting the couple chooses--from a church in front of hundreds, to a cliff by the sea alone.
