Jan. 21st, 2008 01:26 pmI am trying to assemble a bunch of Descensus pieces to submit for a fanfiction reading at Terminus. I'm definitely including the Halloween piece with Lily, and I think I want to include that weird, moody Severus/Narcissa thing (http://community.livejournal.com/descensus_hp/15672.html) - but is that safely rated R (pieces can be R, but not NC-17)? I think it's okay, but I am not sure.

Sounds like you'd fall here based on the piece.
Same thing from The Young Writers Society:
"R: A topic should be rated R if it has any of the following elements:
- Graphic content
- It is sexually explicit
- Has the 'F' word"
In terms of movies, Trainspotting was rated "R" so I think your piece could HARDLY be considered NC-17 under current standards. Personally, I feel it's PG-13 for the content, but as you're describing a very complicated and intense sexual situation (though most of the description is of the emotions and people involved rather than the sex itself) it's probably better to err on the side of caution and give it an R so that you don't run the risk of reading your nice work to an audience that won't appreciate it properly or be caught off-guard.

Date: 2008-01-21 06:50 pm (UTC)I'm really weird about that piece, as we all know by now.
I really wish we had some H/D I could read, but all our H/D is hilariously graphic.
