- Tonight begins 5 days of working at night for the Germans. Neither Patty nor I is thrilled. The best case scenario is that I am done each evening by 2am.

- We are STILL sending out holiday cards.

- The Snape shoes are on sale, but not on sale enough.

- An apartment renovation continues on the floor below us, causing our apartment to smell like paint in the living room and kitchen at night. The building also got another ticket -- this time for no fire extinguishers.

- Hewitt sent me the "tell us what you're up to" form! This being Hewitt, suggested information includes the birth of children and recent vacations! I mentioned Revolutionary Road, my book, and Patty. Let's see what of that they actually use.

- Oscar noms! Saoirse Ronan!

- I tend to think my name is entirely unique. But then there is this.

Not to be a bad influence, but did you know Fluevog does interest-free layaway?

They won't likely get cheaper until they're Last Pairs, and good luck finding your size then.

*cough*

Yeah, no, now I may need to go today... because these shoes! I know I should look at them and say "80s badness" but I look at them and don't understand why they are not already in my closet.

Oh dear. I wish I hadn't found that out. I buy enough Fluevogs already.

I may have missed this, but have you read Revolutionary Road by Yates? or any of his other novels. I have read all of them and I am curious as to your take on his writing.

I haven't and I need to, considering I'm in the damn film and I like to be as informed as possible when arguing with people about the films Mendes always seems to choose.

I can't recommend his work highly enough. He seems to be the kind of writer who had more effect on other writers than on the public, but you can see his influence in things like AMC's Mad Men.

He's the kind of writer I often think of when people ask me what I am talking about when I refer to "alternatives to genre." At the same time, I was intrigued when I read that that consummate genre writer Max Allan Collins reported that Yates was one of his most important mentors and credited Yates with providing him with essential advice.

I would love to hear your thoughts about one of his books like Easter Parade - just because I see Yates as being the polar opposite of the kind of novels that you usually write about here. A Good School - probably the "lightest" of his novels is about a boarding school. Is it the opposite of the Harry Potter novels? What might you make of it?

"Racheline is a child of God, who is born on the 17th Feb 1990. Loves Gen3.4, loves OCIPyn team, loves tjc-cg26/07, loves ccc, loves drama, loves house comm. And most importantly, she loves Jesus who had sacrificed for her on the cross."

Hahahahahah. Well, maybe she's BIZARRO Rach.

Also, never said so, but thank you thank you for the ADORABLE holiday card! It was fantastic.

I was pretty weirded out when I first saw this book, and that was before I'd met K. Now it's even creepier, considering that her mother's name is Kathryn Lasky.

Random note: Kathryn Lasky has written some fine YA lit, including the Starbuck family series, delight of my childhood.

The Snape shoes are awesome. I recommend actual spats. That is what I wear, though I am sorely tempted to buy such shoes. Snape is my hero. Perhaps he is everyone's hero, but he is among my pantheon, which is very very small. A friend.

I keep meaning to make myself some spats.

As to the rest, yes, me too, and it's one of those things that while I say in passing a great deal, I mean more seriously than is apparently appropriate in most conversations.

I mean it seriously also. John is everything to me, but Snape, yes. He is our friend. We have a theory where one may have friends one doesn't see every day.

I got vintage spats on ebay in perfect shape in dove grey, faun and charcoal. My feet=size 6 but I needed size 9 or 10 spats.

I was (am but only very very marginally) involved in the BDSM scene here also. i.e. I know whereof you speak, at least have experiences to compare and contrast. 8^) We don't speak of it though, which is why it does not appear..

I know you do, which is why I said it. I don't much care who sees me talk about things that are real and important to me, but I do make a point of who I bother to address such things too.

And I'm glad I manage to make some sense, at least contextually.
