Last night after fencing I hung out with Jessica for a bit, and then eventually took a cab home, as it was late and I wanted to get home before Patty needed to go to bed.

Of course, my cab driver is paying no attention at all and starts to speed by my street.

"106th!" I holler at him.

At which point he makes a sharp turn, without looking and we crash into a livery cab. Honestly, I couldn't tell who clipped who -- it happened very fast, and the whole thing made us spin out a bit.

I then had to talk the cab driver through the obvious basics.

"Pull over."

"Stop the meter."

etc.

Such fucking drama. I am totally fine, but a bit of timing in any other direction and I wouldn't be.

Not exactly the "hi, honey, I'm home" moment I was going for.

I guess I shouldn't be surprised that you had to tell him what to do. *sigh* I'm glad you're ok.

Whoa, I'm glad you're alright! Before I visited NYNY, I thought the stories about the cabbies were an exaggeration.

Gaaaah!

Meanwhile, I am reading a book Year of the King, by Antony Sher, that I will review here -- I think you'd enjoy it immensely, if you haven't read it already. It's Sher's journal (will his artwork) for 1983 and 1984, before he won the Standard Award for his performance as Richard III for the Royal Shakespeare Company. Every so often, I've come across a passage that just tastes like something you'd revel in.
