I was just going to write a letter to the editor, but maybe I should be submitting an op-ed instead? I dunno. It feels like a longer-shot but an Opportunity. Afterall, I tell stories and write about stories for a living, and I've been creating on-line content since 1990 -- when I was a teenager.

As a general rule, they don't run op-eds that are in response to previous articles, on the theory that that's what letters to the editors are for.

You might be better off pitching it to Salon. I'd love to see it in the Times but you might have better luck getting it out there or on Alternet.

Ah, this sounds like a good idea. I expect that if the Times were likely to run the op-ed or rebuttal, they probably wouldn't have run the puff piece in the first place. (And I'm tempted to call it a "hit piece", honestly.)

Broadsheet would probably be happy to run whatever you (talking to rm, not drfardook) want to write about this. I just wonder if that isn't too much "preaching to the choir"?

I think the Times is reluctant to give op-ed space to us hoi polloi; you'll have better chances with a letter.

Pick the one aspect of the article that infuriates you the most, write a short letter about it, and hope that other people will write in to complain about the things you would have mentioned in a longer letter.
