I didn't even make it to the Top 50 of LJ Idol. I'd be spiteful, but I've got a cold. ;)

I think people purposely didn't vote for you because you posed the biggest threat to them. Meh. They should have either done this type of vote super early in the competition, or for the big winner, with only those who were in the original competition being allowed to vote.

Yeah, although I wasn't the biggest threat. There was at least two other competitors who consistently were pulling more votes than me.

Gah. Saw this before even looking at the results. I'm sorry the whole thing turned into a political game and not a writing game.

Well I always knew it would to a certain extent. My annoyance comes merely from people not being upfront about that fact, and that people who were bigger vote threats than me didn't deal with the same thing -- but I suppose that's just about my sunny disposition ;)

Frankly, I'm furious.

I have another tab open where I've written a nasty response, but I'm holding off on sending it at the moment because a) it won't accomplish anything, and b) well...I can't think of a b, actually.

But you and [livejournal.com profile] shannihilation, going on sheer ability, should most definitely still be there IMHO.

*fumes liek whoa*

As I've said elsewhere I'm very cogniscant of it being a political game and also a game about accessibility. It's important to me to talk about things that aren't accessible and the manner of doing so is often the same. The combination of the two, and my upfrontness about it, doesn't endear me to people. The spat with a well-like contestant may well have no helped either.

You inspired me to consider giving it a go next year. Just to do it. I don't care much for the politics. I miss writing beautifully and writing hard for people in an open way.

I'm sorry you're out, because I was loving your posts. RITE MOAR NAO PLZ.

I'm really stunned by this. I was sure you'd be fine. I've been watching the votes all weekend.

I'm sad to see you go. You're the reason I'm in there now.

You're stunned because you know me as something other than the villain ;)

I like you quite a lot. :)

I think, if this was strategic, it's because you won so many weeks so early.

You didn't make a very good villain. Geez, you could have at very least put on a fake twirly moustache. Or at fiendish looking hat!

Actually, *does the math*, you were #50. Not that it makes a difference. But you did indeed make the Top 50, for whatever that is worth.

Popularity contest indeed. I keep expecting Richard Attenborough to be narrating this whole thing in the "group of chimpanzees documentary" style.

I've tried (sometimes in vain) to be amused by it all.

Really am sorry to see you go. And I think a number of people have misjudged how the dynamic will change without you there.

I'm sorry to see you out of the competition this early because I honestly feel that you're being voted out had nothing at all to do with a lack of quality in your writing. As someone else mentioned, I think it's quite likely that this was a strategic move to drop the biggest competitor out of the competition rather than being a result any poor writing on your part.

Course, in the end, it's only a game and I have a feeling that's the philosophy you have about it all. I just hate to see people gang up to throw someone out *because* they are a good writer instead of keeping the good writer in to keep the challenge of the competition high.

that is just wrong-

Oooooh c'mon now, dish the gossip to your lj friends who care.

P.S. that is some BULLSHIT! I voted for you every week, btw :(

I realize we..don't really know each other, but I feel that I need to say this.

I never voted for you. Not once. Not ever.

I didn't take into account personality. I didn't take into account whatever others might've thought or said. I looked at your writing, & its style. And it left me wanting.

You do have a great technical talent, in that you structure & interweave things well to make a very good pathway. But in reading, it's like taking a stroll through an industrial park: bland, boring, plastic. There's no life. The key for any writer is to make the reader give a shit; I didn't. I don't know...maybe it's because I was exposed to many of the same things you wrote about & so it seemed ho-hum. I read other entries in your journal & found more of the same. I could very well see where some people would think that you tried to come off as "better than them" due to upbringing, schooling, experiences, & the like. Perhaps that's because you talk so much about these that seem to define you rather than you as a person: I'm gay, I went to finishing school, I write professionally, I was a dominatrix, etc. Great for setting, not so great for breathing life.

I supposed that, if I were you, the thing that I would take away from this would be that technical form & verbosity of language are not enough to hold interest. Just as the schmaltz-based entries & angst-ridden missives get old, so does the textual equivalent of Wonder Bread.

But hey, what the fuck do I know? I hate writing.

I enjoyed reading you, and I intend to keep doing so. I found your writing accessible, but sometimes densely packed.

I think your writing is excellent and I love hearing what you have to say. You can be my idol anytime:)

I'm pretty shocked and disappointed by that myself. I do realize why people might choose the opportunity to remove a formidable player from the game. There have been so many outcries, though, over this being a writing contest and not a popularity contest, and as a good writer, you deserved to be in the top 50.

When you think about it, this was the grand chance for people to put their money where their mouths are, and it didn't happen. That saddens me. I'm not holding it against LJ Idol, though, as I came into the competition knowing how the desire to win changes people, if even temporarily.

I will miss having you in the competition. I'm sorry it ended this way for you.

ditto on the voting. I left the contest because of the whole bitterness/backstabbing crap that was starting to surface. It amazes me that people who consider themselves intelligent and educated act like asses over a contest.

Goddamnit. Just...fuck. You would've never been "voted out" if it were an open vote.

This is going to be completely juvenile, but I need to get it out: screw it all, you're a published author!

When you walk down the Red Carpet to accept the Best Screenplay award in your fabulously gorgeous tuxedo-with-a-feminine-twist, you can wear a superior grin with pride. And a lot of us will be rooting for you!

You were the biggest threat in terms of writing ability. Other people are getting more votes and strategy says to target them, but when it comes down to who writes best it was you the whole way.

Also - people removing votes at the last minute is dirty. You finished with less votes than you had on Sunday night when I checked - that isn't right.

Very lame.

I was very surprised to see that the competitors were the only voters, just seems an odd way of handling things. I agree with those who say that you were left out because people were trying to eliminate their competition.

It's fucking stupid, to be terribly inarticulate. I made a special point this week of voting, very intentionally, for you. I was afraid this would happen, and it is sickeningly stupid.

Your passion for storytelling has been wonderful, and I'm glad you've shared week after week. I find you a joy to read, and I really appreciated someone setting the bar so high consistently.

I will miss you there, but am happy that I get to continue reading your work here on LJ. And anyhow, if it leads you to grad school, then you've lost nothing, and gained much.
