I am currently in the process of doing the laundry. While lugging everything to the laundromat, I took the shortcut everyone takes through the gas station, but out of the way of the pumps or anywhere a car needs to be. So, of course, this car folows me, honks at me, then pulls in front of me and swerves to intentionally block the road. I mutter "asshole" under my breath and then shithead gets out of the car and starts yelling at me: "Did you say something? did you say something bitch?"

"No sir, I'm just trying to cross the street."

When I cam out of the laundromat 15 minutes later, he had pulled over but was idling in essentially the same spot, this time honking at me and flashing his lights before he started yelling again.

I suppose when I go put the stuff in the dryer I will walk the long way around so he can't even see me.

Sorta. Being meek to diffuse a situation without meaning it or thinking I deserved the situation. I used to say that sort of stuff because I thought I was supposed to, as opposed to expedience to get to laundromat.

At first I thought "Why not call law enforcement, describe the situation so that they can be prepared for what's likely to happen - though not an obvious presence so that the asshole ducks and runs." But then I remembered you're in NYC. They'd probably get on your case about wasting their time.
