Today, for the first time EVER, I do not owe federal taxes. Instead, $4.84 cents will be credited to my ongoing back tax bill from my dot.com days.

This is a relief and joy on an epic scale.

I'm still buried in the state tax chaos, because I have to file CT too and their forms confuse me (I can do NY and Fed taxes in my sleep).

This is why I have the Turbo Tax thing. What with all the writerly income, regular job income, and business deductions, plus child care, my federal tax form was like 20 pages long. Turbo Tax finds all those little deductions, or at least helps me keep them all straight. Then it just dumps all the numbers into the state forms and I don't have to do nuttin.

Totally worth the $30.

I am done with tax hell for the year, at least I hope. I didn't owe, but only because Adam had extra money taken out of his paychecks every month this year.

I just spent six hours lost in the loops of tax software, arrrrrgh ... but I do get some back, surprisingly, as I thought I'd be paying this year.
