May. 5th, 2008 12:27 pmI have decided to run for the LJ advisory board. I need 100 people to post in support of my nomination to get on the ballot.
You can do so here: http://community.livejournal.com/lj_election_en/836.html

Specifically, we believe in:
Working with the community, for the community.
Honoring the status of every account. (That means supporting and championing free speech!)
Maintaining the uptime and performance of the site.
Staying advertisement free.
Never sending unsolicited e-mail.
Supporting the Free Software movement.
and ...
Protecting people's privacy.
We are very much concerned about the freespeech of LiveJournal's fandom community -- we think that slashfic creators and others have been made scapegoats for the desire to do something about the threat of adults victimizing minors. We are also very much concerned about the free speech of Russian members of LJ.
Our 100+ member community would no doubt be willing to nominate you, if you are willing to post to the community, say that you'll try your best to work towards these goals, and ask for our support. Ideally, you'd also check in with ljunited as needed, keep us informed of things, and use us as a resource on things such as strategy, influencing the other members of the advisory board, etc.
We want a candidate with as much clout, knowledge, and help behind them as possible, so they can ideally make a difference.
Our goal is to put some sort of organized force behind a candidate, capable of helping them out, unifying LJers, and, if necessary, using people power to resist decisions that ignore the advise given.
Does this sound interesting to you?

Date: 2008-05-05 07:33 pm (UTC)And I was really hoping to find some voices to educate me on the technical/usability/uptime issues as seen from the view of people with other account types and usage interests than my own.
Tell me how to proceed, and I'll do it tonight (as I want to be slightly more cogent than I am being at the office now and all that).

Date: 2008-05-05 08:49 pm (UTC)I had been approached by a few people to run, but decided I'd rather stay on the sidelines, while helping organizationally and informationally.
As far as how to proceed, I would join LJ United, and post to the community saying that you approve of and the community's platform, and that you'd like to join LJ United and be its nominee in the election. Let people know what you've done and what your views are on things like the promises that were originally made to LJers, the free speech rights of users, etc.
Frankly, I suspect you could get the community's approval very easily, especially considering you have several people there -- including me -- who would have lots of good things to say about you.
After that, it would be appreciated if you refered people back later to LJ United, making it clear that we have endorsed you as our candidate.
