Date: 2008-05-09 03:27 pm (UTC)I'd really like a slow animation (not flickery perhaps a frame a second), going through the major platform points.
By the way, rm, one of the things that attracted me most about your platform was the argument that allowing free speech lowers LJ's liability, and is therefore not just, "The fans have rights, dude!" I'm not sure how to put it into a two word slogan, but something about common sense, perhaps? Clear communication is another one that I didn't see listed in the icons that was a major selling point for me.
Wish in one hand...
Date: 2008-05-09 04:31 pm (UTC)The font I used for the "rm" was Arial Bold. The bit at the bottom was 10pt bold Segoe UI, but could be anything of that general feel. Can someone make an animation? That part cannot be done in Paint, though people are welcome, if they like my mod, to slap any sensible slogan on it.
My preferred set of animated slogans (presuming you agree with these, rm):
diversity / free speech / usability / common sense / user rights / clear communication / free accounts / open source / strong communities / disability issues
Re: Wish in one hand...
Date: 2008-05-09 04:33 pm (UTC)I plan to play with more stuff tonight, but I may wind up writing as opposed to designing. I see a lot of people entering the race with the argument that they are mainstream and that people with some of the concerns I raise and affiliations I have are not. So I think something needs to be said about unity and about what mainstream really is and isn't.
Re: Wish in one hand...
Date: 2008-05-09 04:58 pm (UTC)Hmm. "Better business" just popped into my head. I'm not sure if it works or not, but, as I said above, I really liked your articulate arguments for making LJ's business stronger by setting sensible policies. "Enforceable policies"? Hmm. In my design, it's easier to make a long second word than first word.
Once more, with feeling...

Date: 2008-05-09 07:45 pm (UTC)What is your stance on your campaigners exercising censorship rather than debating the issues?

Date: 2008-05-09 07:51 pm (UTC)Additionally, I did not found that community, nor am I a maintainer of it. I support its vision for LJ and I'm happy to have their endorsement.
My campaign is my campaign.
Finally, I was getting a blessed bit of sleep when whatever occurred and occurred, so my details on it are fairly limited, but I do not view it as an LJ policy issue.

Date: 2008-05-09 09:50 pm (UTC)How is that different from when Bush was running for office last time, and the secret service would not allow people in the rallies wearing anti-war t-shirts, and relegating protesters, or even people they thought might be protesters to small barricaded areas labeled "free speech zones"?
You claim to be for free speech, but it seems to be only if it is speech you agree with.
Which seems to coincide nicely with what your supporters were doing in

I'm sorry you fail to see the nuance in these situations, but I don't think there's anything I can do to further address this issue with you.

Date: 2008-05-09 10:09 pm (UTC)I think we are seeing exactly why you should NOT be elected. You are failing to take a leadership role. You claim to be for free speech, and then throw in exceptions. You are more than willing to let your supporters attack your opponents, and willing to stand by when your follower silence dissent. That is not what live journal needs. It is what it needs to be protected from.

Date: 2008-05-09 10:28 pm (UTC)I am not throwing in exceptions; rather, I have clearly have a different view of the uses and purposes of the LJ platform than you do. These are the honest disagreements of the electoral process. I am glad you have found a candidate that suits yours and that you are participating. But since we're not going to change each other's minds here, I'm freezing this thread, because I have to believe we both have better things to do in this election and in life than engage in what is threatening to become an endless pursuit of the last word.
pursuit of the last word.

Date: 2008-05-10 12:21 am (UTC)RM, have you thought of contacting Jameth and calling for a cease-fire till the post-nominations timeframe and hold a debate or two? That should clear up alot of BS about where people stand, etc. I think that if the two of you both call for the said cease-fire, then there's a chance it would work.
I'd rather the wank be in one place, as I am a lazy websurfer, and tracking down all these links and trying to make them fluid is really crazy.
Would you be willing to go the distance and set off the greatest election EVAR?
