Well, I lost the election for the LJ Advisory Board. But I lost it with a good showing, grace, dignity and my mental health intact. The results are something I can definitely live with, and the process introduced me to a lot of cool new people on LJ and really helped change my mind on my ability to deal with bullies and trolls and the like. If you ignore it, it will go away, but that doesn't mean you have to stop fighting for a second. This has been a fantastic lesson well learned, and I just wish Patty, who only got to see the bad end of this process with me before she went to her dig in Syria was around for this.

Meanwhile, LJ has announced several policy updates. They include removing restrictive policies on non-sexualized nudity (the greast breastfeedig icon debacle is finally over among other things) and non-photographic images of minors. These are Good Things, and I don't know why it took so long and so much pain for them to happen. Details here: http://community.livejournal.com/lj_policy/1935.html

Finally, a lot of new people are on my friends list thanks to the election. Despite the size of my list I do skim all of it every day. I am reading you, so I hope you will stick around. The last week has been hectic though, so if you want to take a moment to tell me a little bit about yourself in the comments, that would be awesome. Similarly if you have any questions about what's on the journal or my deal, feel free to ask here.

Thanks for your support. Losing has never felt so good.

I'm trying to recall if I ever met you at any of the HP events I've been to (Nimbus, Witching Hour, Phoenix Rising, POA Imax are the main non-locally-focused ones) and sort of wondering why on earth I'd never connected with you before now. If nothing else I'm happy the election caused me to meet you anyway :).

Thank you.

I was at Phoenix Rising, so very possibly. Are you going to Terminus?

I'm not going to Terminus - it conflicts with the start of the annual Balkan music & dance camp which is the one truly necessary thing in my year. And I kinda burned out on HP cons for a while - and on talking about fandom solely through the lens of HP, too.

I was at PR, tho ended up spending a little more time than I'd have liked holed up in my hotel room with [livejournal.com profile] bookshop so didn't get to as many social events as I'd hoped - we had 2 panels to prep for, one of which we were doing video editing til late the night before. I mainly went to stuff on slash, and legal/copyright stuff (ah yes - I also work at a law school internet research center). Bookshop & I organized one of the main slash panels. Hmm, I don't have any great pics of me on the interwebs. I was hanging around with Aja/Bookshop a ton at PR so if you met her odds are you met me too.

I have a pic on my work bio, which is linked in my locked post here. I feel like I might have seen you but not actually met you, yaknow? :D

Oh, and now I see the "introduce yourself" bit of your post :). In brief: geeky, fannish, Jewish, bi, in love with dancing & folk cultures, fond of analyzing & critiquing & pushing social systems, employed in online communications/community management, too busy to be on LJ nearly as much as I want to be, but with both the election and the new policy changes starting to feel more connected to LJ again, which makes the hole in my heart that Strikethrough created just a little less hurty. :)
