on the fictional life
Jun. 6th, 2008 05:39 pm"Only fictional lives or lives made into fiction have a shape. Outside of fiction one can find routine, which is negative in design, and random events, beyond foresight and control. We might be dust blown in the wind. We are. The refuge, then, was another life; and if there was empathy, it was with what is otherwise impossible to have."

Apt, particularly it seems in the wake of the most recent bit of writing I did. I'm been in a damn mood ever since.

Date: 2008-06-07 04:14 am (UTC)Writing for me is closer to acting, than to writing. It's not a removed process. Patty keeps me in the world of actual people, so when she's away on digs, my moods from the production of words can linger. It's not a big deal, in that I differentiate sad from depressed. But, oh. I felt all that.

Date: 2008-06-07 06:21 am (UTC)I suspect all good writers are emotionally involved in the people whose stories they tell,to various degrees. The actor as story teller, and the writer as story teller, are not far removed from each other. No more than the poet is removed from the singer,or the dancer from the musician.

Date: 2008-06-07 01:44 am (UTC)Anyway, I really like your writing (both fiction and non-), and I think you'd make a really rocking contribution, and add an interesting voice to the mix. I don't normally go and harass people like this to contribute (okay, a few of our regulars, but they need it), but I'd like to have you as a part of this.
Feel free to tell me to fuck off if you're not interested :)

So what do I do... or do I just go look at the community and figure it out.

Date: 2008-06-07 04:50 am (UTC)The current submission date is tomorrow, but I doubt that's feasible for you XD The next one will be probably in August sometime.
Each issue has a pre-determined theme, but you don't have to follow it if you don't want to -- the next one will be sports, which you might be interested in.
