- Sick passenger on train. An hour twenty with fencing bag on my back. Bad.

- Gorgeous day here.

- Kali finally got to the Face of Boe stuff. Excellent!

- The Albanian virgins living as men: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/25/world/europe/25virgins.html
Yes, I know. I've gotten it from five of you already, which is pretty rad.

- my Free Will Astrology (also sent by several of you).
Yes, I know. I sure like fighting, eh? I always giggle at the wrong parts.

- People will NEVER stop surprising me.

- I am oddly right with the world.

ETA:

- Well I was oddly right with the world until I was given a task at work that makes me challenge any assumptions of my intelligence I've ever had. Seriously, I have never felt this way before and I don't like it. I'm the brain, not the physical person. Er, I'm thinking, not so much. Why am I always the last to notice?

- [livejournal.com profile] sam_storyteller brings us sweet, epistolary Jack/Ianto time-travel paradox fic.

http://sam-storyteller.livejournal.com/134184.html

I LOVE THIS FIC, largely, because so much of my life with Patty involves letter writing and in a month will probably involve pausing in the doorway on my way home to read something she's writing me right now that I won't receive until she's back and it doesn't matter except it does. So yeah.

Also, there's a line that guts me. If you're really bored, see if you can find it.

- My braces are here. They are perfect. The world is now slightly shinier.

- Hey, have I mentioned how excited I am for this weekend? All time-traveling all the time. Friday night and Saturday day is 1940s, Saturday night and Sunday day is Regency. And it's Pride weekend?!?!? Ha. Love my fucking life. Wish Patty were home.

- My hair. What the fuck am I going to do with my hair this weekend? Cutting it is not an option for at least a while because of other obligations. Similarly, I should note that I feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable wearing a hat indoors when I'm dressed as a man (I may be crazy, but I was raised well). And it's not even remotely an option for the Regency event.

For the 1940's events, no problem! Just wear it long, like some actually did then. Newspaperarchive.com to the rescue, from the Daily Kennebec Journal of Augusta, Maine, dated May 21st, 1946, by Richard Kendall.

I have been wearing an off the face hairdo for, lo, these many years, but in my youth I looked with horror on any male whose front hair could not be drawn down across his nose. Now my hair has receded to the back of my neck, but time was when I could give my head a backward flip and toss my mane from my chin to my collar.

One of our High School English teachers was lecturing on the poet Byron, one pleasant spring afternoon, and she paused and looked around at the boys in the class.

"Many of our boys," she said, "seem to be copying the appearance of Lord Byron. I refer to the long hair and the lack of neckties."

Of course, that wasn't it at all. We never heard of Byron until she talked about him, and she had sprung a quiz on us before her lecture most of us would have guessed that he played second base for one of the minor league ball clubs, and that he invariably forgot to touch second base.

I don't know what prompted the long hair fashion of that day. Perhaps the barbers had something to do with it. Certainly we didn't get it from the movies, because the leading characters of the day wore their hair under a thick coating of shellac of a similar shiny substance.
