Right. So just finished Human Nature/Family of Blood.

I can't decide if I can't articulate about it or don't wwant to. But among, many, many other things, there was a moment that so perfectly captured my experience of anguish as a writer (specifically what I was trying to describe after I wrote the first Annie story and couldn't do anything for a couple of days after) ....

Another really good two-parter. I actually felt a lump in my throat at the Armistice Day memorial service at the end. The episode after that, "Blink," is really damn good...and had they ended the series then, I would have been happy. The three-part finale that followed all of this was, to sum up in one word, ass (even if Jack shows up for most of it). I don't want to get into it, as I'll rattle off and spoil.

*shudder* More nerve than I have. But then, I have mannequin fear. Major mannequin fear. Probably instilled by watching Dr. Who when I was three years old. This show has always had a thing for human-shaped Things That Shouldn't Move But Do.

One of the very first episodes, away back at the beginning, when I was a child, had a statue, that moved and nabbed one of the first companions. I think I still have unexpected-grabby issues because of it.

I'm right there with you. My only problem with the end of Family of Blood was that I'd have been much happier if Tim had been true to his convictions had been a medic or something similar in the War. Seeing him become a soldier after his (and the Doctor's talk about peace) bothered me a great deal.

Blink was perhaps one of the two or three best Doctor Who episodes ever. OTOH, I definitely enjoyed Utopia, but thought that last two were less good (and found most of the last episode to be utterly ludicrous)

Yes! When I first saw the episode, I really expected that this was what he would do. I remember being surprised to see him on the battlefield as a soldier.

Not everyone got to be a medic. It was very competitive, because it was marginally less dangerous. In the end, they sent a lot of boys over who would rather not be carrying a gun. But as Tim said, if you think it's important enough to fight for...

Sorry for always lurking. I can't not comment on Doctor Who. DT in Family of Blood breaks my heart every time. I'm glad you enjoyed it (at least I think you did).

That set of episodes was among my favorite of the entire series both old and new. And yes, I cried like a little girl at several parts.

I'm actually right there in the same spot with NuWho series 3! Human Nature (minus the first 15 minutes) and Family of Blood were the first episodes of NuWho I ever saw while on my jetblue flight home from Vegas in March. It was so weird to see them again knowing everything I know now!

Also, the last scene of Family of Blood makes me weep like a baby. When Martha puts the poppy on the Doctor's jacket I just lose it entirely. What an astoundingly beautiful moment.

God DAMN I love Doctor Who!!

Those two episodes broke my heart at so many different points. One of the scenes that will always stay with me is when the boys are shooting down the scarecrows scared out of their minds with tears streaming down their face and the human Doctor is so horrified at the whole situation and can't even shoot off his own gun.
