OKay, now that I've just killed an hour being glad this is too heavy to ship out of Europe (not that it would fit, not that I want something cut for a girl, blah blah blah), I'm going to do some actual work until Patty wakes up and we can buy bookcases.

I've started actually looking at patterns for similar coats that I could alter, but my real problem is fabric. I know that the actual prop coat is cotton moleskin, but I'm having a devil of a time finding a good source for that.

I like wool, too, so I've been looking at wool coatings, but that'd be heavier than the cotton and the drape would be wrong.

AUGH. This boy does not like being stymied.

This coat ting is truly driving me out of my mind. People keep telling me that my cosplay is awesome without it, but the thing is I like the coat. I just want he coat because I want the damn coat, although I'd also really like to have a solution in tiem for Gallifrey One.

I almost wish the Jack at the big gay dance party hadn't been so (gorgeously, eye-catchingly, super-fantastically) occupied so I could have asked him.

His was totally not the correct fabbric at all. It hink it was suit weight wool -- the top of it wasn't sturdy enough at all, but the drape was good.

Huh. I half wonder what medium weight wool coating would look like, then. Maybe I can find a bolt of it somewhere and play/send pics/etc.

You likely know this, but my friend [livejournal.com profile] xtricks (who is also looking into acquiring such a coat) told me that the actual coat on the show is made from synthetic suede and not wool, both to make it lighter and to drape and swirl better. Of course, at that point you're looking at paying someone to make it.

And apparently, also because Barrowman is allergic to wool.
