OKay, now that I've just killed an hour being glad this is too heavy to ship out of Europe (not that it would fit, not that I want something cut for a girl, blah blah blah), I'm going to do some actual work until Patty wakes up and we can buy bookcases.

omg want it. But I think it's too small for me, and I too want a man's cut.

*wibble*

I could fit into that. But it would drag behind me on the floor, which fixable, granted, but ludicrous until it is fixed, but still, I really couldn't pull it off. But it looks so darn FAB on the mannequin.

*shakes fist at heavens*

Next time I go to the UK, I think I'm going to take an extra (empty) suitcase with me and fill it with RAF surplus greatcoats. I'd make a killing on 'em back in the states.

(although, personally, I prefer the harder-to-find-and-be-ready-to-PAY pre-1970 issue of the coat... The lapels aren't quite so, um, seventies, and the buttons are actually brass, not stay-brite metaltone...)

The only thing that makes me tempted by this cut is that it'll be took big on me, and poen teh feminine cut might make it drape closer t teh way I want it to drape, but yeah. I really can't believe I still refuse to giv eup on teh coat thing. Becuse I shoudl really just -stop- and content myself with the knowledge that sooner or later someone will make a good replica that I actually like, but I'm impatient and actually need a new winter coat.... (god help everyone if I wind up with something like this as my day to day winter coat -- I will be insufferable).

I would LOVE to have that as my winter coat! That coat + kick ass boots = awesome.

I wish they shipped to the US. :/

I've started actually looking at patterns for similar coats that I could alter, but my real problem is fabric. I know that the actual prop coat is cotton moleskin, but I'm having a devil of a time finding a good source for that.

I like wool, too, so I've been looking at wool coatings, but that'd be heavier than the cotton and the drape would be wrong.

AUGH. This boy does not like being stymied.

This coat ting is truly driving me out of my mind. People keep telling me that my cosplay is awesome without it, but the thing is I like the coat. I just want he coat because I want the damn coat, although I'd also really like to have a solution in tiem for Gallifrey One.

I almost wish the Jack at the big gay dance party hadn't been so (gorgeously, eye-catchingly, super-fantastically) occupied so I could have asked him.

You likely know this, but my friend [livejournal.com profile] xtricks (who is also looking into acquiring such a coat) told me that the actual coat on the show is made from synthetic suede and not wool, both to make it lighter and to drape and swirl better. Of course, at that point you're looking at paying someone to make it.

His was totally not the correct fabbric at all. It hink it was suit weight wool -- the top of it wasn't sturdy enough at all, but the drape was good.

Huh. I half wonder what medium weight wool coating would look like, then. Maybe I can find a bolt of it somewhere and play/send pics/etc.

And apparently, also because Barrowman is allergic to wool.

Wow, the boots and the Napoleonic officers vest are both especially drool-worthy. If I didn't spend so much money on electronics and books, I might be able to afford those...
