Gareth David-Lloyd is gonna be a guest at Gallifrey One. I've been telling you people this for weeks.

Did no one on my friends list notice this because it was announced on 9/11? Because I just found out now.

ha!

OH YES!!!!!!!

*ahem*

Okay, maybe that's obliterated a bit of my sulk over Chicago.

And, DAMN, I didn't get a brunch ticket this time...

I don't even know what's up with the brunch thing, I never even saw that on the site when I registered. Explain. Help.

Also, right now I have actually booked a hotel for Thursday through Sunday nights, because I learned my lesson at Dragon*Con. Although I may eventually bag the Thursday night and just fly in really early on Friday. I have this vague theory of actually coming out even earlier and taking the week and trying to do appropriate actorly things out there, but I hate LA so much, I suspect that won't actually happen.

The con does a Sunday brunch for about fifty people, plus most of the GOHs.

Thing is, pre-reg for the next year (including brunch tickets) go on sale on the last day of the current year's con. Brunch tix *always* sell out at the convention - so unless you have someone there at the con willing to buy the ticket for you, you're SOL. I was just too far back in the line, this time, to get a ticket. Sigh. It was definitely worth it, though, even tho' it's something like $40 - the con staff 'rotate' the guests through, so everyone will spend 10 minutes or so at your table with half a dozen fans. I've done it the once and it was fun.

Programming begins at noon on Friday. If you can afford it, I'd recommend flying in on Thursday night. I've done Friday morning and Thursday night arrivals and MUCH prefer Thursday night - it gives me a chance to unpack, look over the program, corner guests into an early cocktail at the bar, etc, etc. ;)

Yeah. I think I'm going Thursday. Hopefully I'll have people to share the room with all nights (as I'm sure I'll fill my room up easily for Fri/Sat -- still waiting to see who of my social circle is going when). I think I've really learned my lesson from my road warrior approach to both Dragon*Con and Terminus. Really. Really. Really. Stupid.

*nod*

I should start looking for roomies although, honestly, I rather hope I have enough in my tax refund to afford my own space. After spending all day at the con going at Mach 1, my own chill-out area would be nice. But at the price the LAX Marriot charges... ($150/night, iirc) I don't think it'll be feasible...

*nod* I actually, despite getting very overwhelmed by people very easily, do okay in crowded hotel rooms at cons. I think it actually helps me. I have to stay contained all the time, and it just forces me to be more even about all the people in general. But then, with very few exceptions, I've always had roommate situations that have worked out well at these things. I am happier when I'm the one holding the reservation though.

Hee! I usually insist on getting the reservation for these things - I've got a whooooole lotta Marriot rewards points piling up. ;)

OK, every time Gareth signs up for one of these CA conventions, I seriously regret leaving San Diego. Could he maybe come to Chicago, instead? Much as I was never a fan of CA, it sucks to have put up with 8 years there, only to leave before GDL started showing up. Oh, cruel world.

Hah! I'm looking forward to seeing the bad behaviour up close.
I going to register for Gallifrey at lunch today. I plan on flying out on Thursday and leaving on Monday.

That's my plan as well (re: days).

Sadly, because of the timing of the con, I'm expecting some awful fan behavior at this one. On the other hand, the folks I know who go to Gallifrey annually have been pretty clear that fans don't let fans be assholes at this one, so I hope that's true.
