The window gate guy called and asked me if I'd moved all the furniture so they could install the gates. While this should have, probably, been obvious to me, it wasn't, and everything is still a mess from the robbery.

I panicked and told him I hadn't and couldn't by myself and did we need to reschedule and would it cost even more. I haven't been well, I said, since the robbery. Who the fuck says that? What sort of complete weakling am I?

So he said we'd work it out and now I'm cleaning the bedroom frantically so we can move furniture and they stole the diamond and ruby (cheap, shitty) earrings my racist, anti-semitic grandmother left me and did I think I was okay?

Hahahahaahah.

You know, I completely understand about the "haven't been well" statement. I went through a very similar robbery (where I swear the thieves were fanboys because they took EVERY ONE of my collected sword and dagger replicas). I wasn't right with the world for a long time after that.

I know weaklings and you, sir, are no weakling.

You are not a weakling. Robbery is a dreadful crime and it leaves marks that re-appear at the strangest times.

I am sorry for all the grap that the universe seems to be throwing your direction all at one. I am wishing better times soon for you and yours.

What she said.

The bottom line is that you were violated.

Your space was invaded and things were taken from you.

It's not OK, but it is how you are supposed to feel.

You'll be OK when you are OK and not a moment before.

And that will take time.

DO NOT punish yourself for being human.

DO NOT.

I'm physically close enough to annoy you if you do.

Thoughts and prayers to you and yours.

And take a moment for yourself OK?

Please.

Wishing I was a) proximate, and b) not deathly allergic to feline creatures. I would so help you if I could.

I haven't been well, I said, since the robbery. Who the fuck says that?

OSCAR WILDE. Oscar Wilde would say that.

[insert offer of hugs and/or hugs and/or a martini here.]

I am really sad to find out you are allergic to cats, as now we can't lure you up to New York (although they are banned from the bedroom and office) at some point.

People used to tell me I looked like Oscar Wilde all the time. So this is very funny and delightful.

And you know, I can't drink gin for shit. But there's the end of a bottle of Absolute in the house, and while I'm off to work now, I sense the need to partake in a bt of ritual drinking soon. Besides I should probbly start training for GallifreyOne ;)

Oh, I'm sure you can still lure me. Just not, you know, into your home. When I say deathly allergic, I'm not exaggerating. Even weekly shots couldn't make me cat-friendly. It's tragic, because I do actually like cats, and because everyone I seem to know has one.

Oscar Wilde is my spiritual adviser. I have a little figure of him on my desk at work. I look up at him occasionally and say, "Oscar Wilde, I do not want to compile this data for assessment. What should I do?" and he looks down and says, "Write a play." It's quite helpful.

[insert GO jealousy here.]

I'm saving all of my gin for the 4th and 5th of November. Just in case.

Nothing wrong with a vodka martini. Also, no cats here ;-)

HEY. We should russianvodkaroom at some point when we next need to storify. Hopefully my stomach will have healed sufficiently by then.

Dude. We still got to get on this lottery thing. I mean, I'm due for some good luck, right?

And man, you do have a point. I suppose I'll drink the dregs of the Nuvo if I have to if the election goes wrong.

Well, you know my martini policy. I only drink them in emergencies. November? I'm hopeful, but the last two election cycles have given me a terrible case of civic PTSD.

You're making me want to buy Nuvo just so I can be one of the cool kids, you know...

It has a waxy aftertaste. Have I mentioned that? Makes it funnier, right?

And yeah. I can't even. My abiding memory of the 2004 election was a woman on the train clutching a crumpled up NYT and crying silently, and I can promise you, she had not just been dumped.

re: Nuvo: Nooooo! You will regret it.

And hey, if things don't go our way...it'll be the fifth of November! Gunpowder, treason and plot!

I don't know what to do with that. Honestly, I do not.

I was playing bass guitar in a band during the 2000 election. I'd also volunteered and done some calling/canvassing, and was really excited because it was my first presidential election (I was 20). We spent every night before band practice in front of the TV watching the news to see if we had a new president yet. The night they announced Bush was...well...you can imagine. The only thing good about it was our sound.

I saw Ministry play the day after the 2004 election. Same effect, really.

I should see who's playing around here on 11/5...

After my car was broken into, everything was weird. Even though I worked nights for years before that, I was suddenly afraid to walk to my car after dark even in the relatively well lit parking lot. I felt queasy and crazy often.
