- Our German overlords are in the office today, so I'll probably be quiet.

- I hate that TW is a TV fandom. I've never been in a TV fandom before, but every two seconds it's "this is the last season! So and so isn't coming back! I heard a rumour...." none of which are ever based on ANYTHING. TW moved from BBC3 to BBC1! -- that means it's doing well. If S3 does well, there will be more. The end.

- Mouse: still mousing.

- OutpostGallifrey -- probably not where I should be explaining to people what it's like to be gay in entertainment in America.

I've not been in a TV fandom either before, at least not one where the show is currently running...it is very interesting to say the least. Very...enthusiastic people. LOL!

You tried to explain reality to Outpost Gallifrey? Dear God. You're a braver woman than I.

So far people were nice. I figure that's just because it's before noon. I've actually never really posted there before. I'm sure it's about to get fucktacular. That place is weird.

There's some nice people and then a sizable percentage of morons, the people who get worked up about "Rusty's gay agenda" because, say, one episode last season briefly featured a lesbian supporting character.

Right now I'm giving the lecture on "if you think Jack/Ianto is hot and you don't support gay rights you are an asshole."

That was one of the lowlights of the MediaWest con for me, running into more than one group of fans who sighed over Jack/Ianto and were sneeringly homophobic concerning actual real human beings. Needless to say I'm not returning there again.

This is now the thing I talk about every time I am on a relevant panel. We had big drama with that in HP fandom too.

Wait...

My brain just crashed.

Homophobic fans of homosexual character relationships?

Nope... my brain can't process it. What a mind-boggling concept. More to the point, how can such folks manage to accomodate such contradictory thoughts without their heads exploding (although it sounds like they're doing a dandy job of making *your* head explode)

Damn. I'm going to have to think about this one...

PS - I must admit, I generally stay away from OG, or any online fan forums. It's always a case of too many morons, not enough engaging content...

Ayup.

Versions I've seen:

Hot in fiction; immoral in real life.
Hot in fiction; not my problem in real life.
Gay men are hot; lesbians are gross -- why are they in our fandom?
Gays are for entertaining us. Period.

Oh, indeed.

Particularly reprehensible was the ruckus over the most recent episode of "House M.D." in certain sections of the House fandom community. Yes, there were some cute moments between House and Wilson, but the episode was mainly about regular character "Thirteen" and her [not-]coping strategies.

Good grief, the hate that was spewed in her direction (and also in Cuddy's - by *female* fans!). Sheesh. Yes, she's a bit weakly characterized, but the point of the episode was to make good on that.

Y'know, I'm going to try to see the positive in that the fact that I find those POVs not only alien but slightly shocking yet another sign that I live in one of the best places on the planet. I know Baz warned us all to get out of Northern California before it made us soft but *damn*.

Gays are for entertaining us. Period.

That one, in particular, makes my blood boil. The rest of the list does, too, of course...

*seethes quietly*

It's the mirrored image of misogynist, homophobic, male lesbian fantasies.
