This outccome? That speech? In front of a crowd of hundreds of thousands of people? echoing the speech that really started this off in a lot of ways? Dude, that was a fucking West Wing moment right there.
I thought of TWW too, when people were joining Obama on the stage. I think it has something to do with having an articulate president. It's been a long time.
I'll track it down if you're interested, but someone on my flist posted about the West Wing having political experts, and them figuring out a plausible way of getting a black president.
My daughter (19) cried and cried last night. She was so happy. Could not find newspapers this morning (grrr). Not delivered yet, I was told--but must find one for her as she wants to keep it for her future unborn kids.
Still so much work to be done. But it is so good to have hope.
I was in a state of fight or flight because all I could think was 'this is too amazing... something BAD is going to happen.' When it was over and everything was okay and that I actually got a happy ending for once, I broke down crying and called my best friend in NYC who I can always rely on to be just as crazy as me. We were sobbing and cheering until we finally exhausted ourselves and went to bed.
It was so weird to hear people repeating 'Yes, we can!' after him. I'm just not used to that. The crowd, the tears, the movie stars, the Oprah, the Fox News guy saying how awesome the kids up on the stage were... I so fear for Obama right now. He'll have a lot of expectations to fulfill. I don't think I've ever seen anything like that regarding politics, and I thought I'd never see it after Lula. It was... history being written through cable TV right in front of my eyes. I've seen historical facts happen many times, but very few actually gave me the feeling of being historical at the exact moment it was happening. This was definitely one of those.
It felt like watching Independence Day, only replacing the aliens by the Bushes.

I was a little weirded out by that too. He was getting a bit of a charismatic preacher thing going on (although it's not like he was calling for the response).
