the beauty of sadness from around the Internet

This bit of meta is the first thing that's reminded me in a long time of the beautiful bright tragedies that are hidden in the not always well edited or thought out product that is the Harry Potter series. Worth a read. (And crap, it is so nice to see someone saying something smart about magic and sex in that universe -- finally!)

Meanwhile, this is an amazing resource for costumers and writers.

Also, I finally made myself listen to Barrowman's latest unbelievably overproduced single. And, um, I totally fucking dig it because it reminds me of all the completely ridiculous crap I listened to in high school.

Thank you for the resource. As a writer raised by a costumer, I'm very hard on myself about clothing details.

Oh god.

Thank you!

Google and LIFE FTW.

Am probably bookmarking this for ficcing purposes. I've got a fic to write set in 1969 so this will be Very Useful.

Heh, nothing wrong with indulging a taste for pulp music now and again.

OMG, this is like the catchiest song ever. It's sort of evil (part of the charm is that is has that "this is awesome to sing" structure that makes me want to get off my ass and go back to voice lessons).

On the Life archive - I was just looking at the photograph of African American Senator Hiram Revels of Mississippi. My 2 year old asked me who he was. And I explained - rather pointlessly, I thought - that he was the first African American senator. And she replied: "Like 'Rock Obama!"

Because she's apparently paying attention.

Also, I can't sit through the Barrowman single - for exactly the same reasons you're digging it. Too Jack Wagner-y for me. For whatever reason, I can only do overproduced if they've got punky 80s hair. I do, however, think it's a perfectly good genre for him to be doing music in. :)

*grin* Yeah I posted about the song a while ago and linked the making of video. I don't know why but the thing gets stuck in my head..........especially the tone he uses for the line What are we doing?

Not usually a pop girl myself, but I gave in and bought the CD.

Wow. Not really my style, but John Barrowman does have an excellent voice, doesn't he?

Many years from now, John Barrowman will be playing the lead in "The William Shatner Story". Bless him.

That's so wrong and funny.

I only wish it were original with me. XD
