I am still too tired from the travails of travel to do anything useful like respond to real emails or anything like that, but briefly:

- Patty and I exchanged gifts, which was awesome.

- We opened the holiday cards that we were sent, that were shockingly moving in some cases.

- Chatauqua Airlines is awesome, and I will never mock the little Embraer jet again. Greatest flight ever. Ever ever. My ears didn't pop AT ALL, and it was a totally cool plane because I could feel and understand what was going on pretty much all the time. Also, amazing blind landing in the fog bank from hell. Made me really sad my vision is not good enough for me to ever fly a jet.

- Her mom got us massages yesterday, from which I still feel a bit braindead and stupid. That's a good thing.

- Having dinner tonight with friends of Patty's.

- Patty and I lay around last night, watched Firefly and looked at the Cunard website for a really long time.

- I bought a cool stripey shirt.

- My cat sitter was successfully able to get into our house where all is reportedly well (our keys can be wacky, so I worry).

- Still need to get a memory card for camera.

- This is so different from last year, because both Patty and I are more comfortable with the idea of me being here and being with her parents.

- So yeah, we're doing our holiday cards now.

- It's going to be 65 here today.

Yes, it's RPF.
Yes, it's political RPF.
Yes, you're going to feel like you're going to hell.
BUT, it's the most amazing examination of how ambition makes people's inner narratives batshit insane and it's astoundingly written. So you should read it.

- I have a good draft of the Australia essay, though it is currently 62 words too long.

It sounds like a lovely way to spend the holiday. I turned on the air conditioner yesterday, hahah.

That story - wow. That is amazing. I love it.

This is all wonderful to hear.

If you want another set of eyes on the Australia essay, mine are available.

Glad you got the message. All is well, except for the fact they both act like teenage girls and want to claw my coat to death.

Our poor cat sitter got snowed in and snowed out and stuck, and was only able to visit our cats twice the week we were away. She was distraught; of course the cats were fine, with piles of cat food and water put out for that very possibility.

Calvin stayed with his usual sitter and her pugs; she had just had surgery, and Calvin's rambunctiousness and desire to jump into her lap all day ended him up in his crate a lot of the time. He's going to be a NUT the rest of the weekend.

I had a wonderful flight on Chatauqua Airlines once as well. Nice to know there are a still few good ones out there, even if they're the exception and not the rule.

Did you come in last night? The fog was unreal. I went for a walk in it because I've never seen such a thing at night here. It is far too warm today and I cannot open my windows having put plastic insulation on them just last week when it was freezing cold.

Couldn't reply to your earlier comment (it's screened) but would love to meet up for coffee. Tomorrow afternoon works for me if it does for you. Where? The only place I know in CW is the creepy doll museum.

I flew in early in the morning, thank god. But right as we were landing, everything just whited out, about 60 seconds from touching down and we pulled up and then did it again on IFR. You could totally tell the pilot was like "what the fuck was that?"

The fog last night was crazy. We were being driven around in it (both of us being non-drivers) and were speechless.

So...yeah. All those best laid plans. I'll try to get in touch tomorrow since today exploded in my face. How long are you guys here for?

agh. switching from vfr to ifr is weird enough in a little bitty plane. I can't even imagine it in a jet.

My husband used to be the head of Maintenance for Chautauqua. If you ever have to fly Republic, they are the same company other name, same planes. They do rather rock.
