While The Art of Manliness is often hit or miss and often more fascinating for a look at how batshit insane our society is about gender, anyone who likes wearing men's clothes in a masculine way (as opposed to a "I'm a girl and I stole this from my boyfriend" way) would be well advised not to miss today's issue. It's common sense, if you're used to thinking about how clothes work, but the reality, of course, is that most people aren't.

Good point! Have emailed that to myself as a general reference for both costume and fic.

It's really good. I find about half their entries useless and about another 25% just bizarre (humans = crazy), but the other 25% is always oddly crazily useful.

I'm not entirely sure, but I think that article just said that I have the same type of figure as David Beckham. Hrrr?

I found this really useful for writing purposes, actually; thankyou! In fact, this entire website is going to help me flesh out my characterization, though a lot of it reminds me of the advice my late grandfather would frequently give me when I was younger and he (in his dementia) mistook me for a boy.

I've become very interested in recent movements that are masculinity-for-its-own-sake, as opposed to masculinity-is-rebellion (tribal tattoos and 'no fear' stickers) or masculinity-as-conformity (metrosexuality). Thanks for the rec!

This is a remarkable way of delineating things that had not occurred to me consciously and that I can certainly extrapolate to various interpretations of femininity that we're all getting hit with right now too. Good stuff in a really short sentence!
