- I did the fitting for the suit last night and talked to them about the tux further down the road. The whole thing was completely awesome, and it didn't feel like I was struggling to make clear what I wanted. I wore a pair of trousers I particularly like, so we did some of the measurements off those to get the leg just right and we talked about building out the shoulders on the jacket ever so slightly just to compensate for my hips, and it all felt not crazy, except a little bit in my head. Of course, now I have to think about all sorts of other things -- pocket squares and ties and proper shirts (because the boys department at the Gap isn't going to stand up to this), but it'll be 6 - 8 weeks until the suit is even ready, so whatever. Anyway. I should also note that Duchess does women's style suits too, and there were a number of women there getting fitted with that in mind.

- Today is the day Patty was supposed to get home. We txt'ed instead.

- The thing with Kali's dad continues. Not much I can do other than worry about it, and god, write her some fic already so she has a break.

- Lunacon this weekend -- I just took everything I need to the dry cleaners.

- I can't find my braces.

- marchek, on the other hand, (legally) liberated some braces from her place of employ, so I have a plan b.

- Wow, cold war memories thread! Folks! I had no idea there would be such intense eagerness to talk about it.

- My mother got tickets to see Leonard Cohen. A ticket. She's going by herself. It would be too difficult for my father. My parents don't really believe in having independent lives from each other, so this is a little disturbing.

- There's a lot going on in my head. Not bad. Just a lot. Processing. Also writing. Need to get stuff down on paper.

- Busy 48 hours of work ahead. Not much of me here.

If you want truly authentic shirts I'd recommend Brooks Brothers. They have a nice website where you can choose among several classic designs and select 100% cotton cloth.

If you prefer the polyester/cotton blend route, you can get some very nice shirts from general retail stores. Arrow continues to make excellent shirts, and I own several.

For ties there's a vast assortment available now in pure silk. Get a few that you like. It's pretty easy to pick up matching handkerchiefs (or at least pocket squares) too. Or you can go the classic route and actually use white linen folded handkerchiefs.
