- Got two more letters from Patty last night. I think we're both really relieved, because she spent all that effort writing them, and we like to have a record of her trips and this one has been tough on the communications logistics front. One of the letters is from when she started to get sick with what turned out to be pneumonia. It's pretty weird reading knowing what I know now and what we didn't know when she was writing it.

- More prescription cat-food acquired.

- Lots of work.

- I did not need another short story inspiration for something that has a deadline coming up Really Damn Soon and for which there's really no other good home (which makes it rather do or die).

- Luckily, the latest non-fiction thing I'm submitting for doesn't have a deadline until May.

- I have got to deal with WriterCon stuff today.

- I still have not heard on the thing I'm dying to hear on that will put a major but awesome writing pressure on me.

- An ongoing joke may become a serious project/pitch. I have tingly spidey sense about it. So, er, yeah. That'll be interesting.

Hi. I'm not exactly sure who you are or how I found your journal, but something about the way you write made me have to read more.

Thanks for friending me, and I look forward to reading your journal.

*laughs* Thank you and welcome.

There's a range of stuff here. "sundries" are my little daily life status posts, and I do periodic long, nostalgic essays usually on my childhood or my relationship to fiction/narrative/stories or both. There's also fanfiction, politics and, as we saw yesterday, rants.

She is particularly good with the rants, but it's all first rate.

I once got a transatlantic phone call from a friend because she was very concerned about me after the last letter I'd sent. Which I had begun to write earlier in a week, then finished up literally while waiting to go in for wisdom tooth surgery (mine impacted and had to be drilled out). The last third of the letter, the paragraph starts to curve downwards on the page and the handwriting gets worse than usual, as the sedatives kick in, and the sentences ramble worse than usual, and I signed off with a "So I'm going in for surgery now, wish me luck, bye" having entirely forgotten to mention *why* I needed surgery of any kind, and asked my father to mail the letter for me as my last conscious act.

So my best Stateside friend was a little concerned, understandably. And of course I was still full of stitches when she did call and couldn't talk well, but managed to explain the issue at least.
