MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) -- Vermont has become the fourth state to legalize gay marriage -- and the first to do so with a legislature's vote.

The Legislature voted Tuesday to override Gov. Jim Douglas' veto of a bill allowing gays and lesbians to marry. The vote was 23-5 to override in the state Senate and 100-49 to override in the House. Under Vermont law, two-thirds of each chamber had to vote for override.

In a sense it already has - Iowa has moved to defeat an attempted counterattack at the pro-gay-marriage court decision.

‘You guys don’t understand. You’ve already lost. My generation doesn’t care.’
Yeah. That's the name of that tune.
(So happy....)

As is this (D.C. Council moves to recognize gay marriages from other states). This is quite the momentum that's gathered here.

eta: And the lower house of the NH lege. Its chances in the Senate are judged doubtful, apparently.

"POLL
The D.C. city council has voted unanimously to recognize gay marriages performed in other states -- including Vermont and Iowa, which recently legalized the status. What recognition do you think the District should give same-sex relationships? "
Currently the last option:"The city should itself legalize gay marriage.' is at 89%!(Yes, I know, not rocket science. But MAGIC.)

"As a matter of fact, last Friday night, I hugged my wife. You know I’ve been married for 37 years. I hugged my wife. I felt like our love was just a little more meaningful last Friday night because thousands of other Iowa citizens could hug each other and have the state recognize their love for each other."

Why isn't that in the headlines instead of what a 115-year-old eats for breakfast? *goes to search for more info*

Depends.

Oh, that's where they go, not what they eat.
