So I was supposed to get paid yesterday. Did I? Nooooo. At least today they should be able to tell me when. On the plus side, more of the last checks have cleared, so more bills are out of the way.

I got the most stunning pair of earnings ever for Valentine's day, and thanks to my schedule I had to have them redirected to my office. I'm such a girl that way, but getting gifts at the office is the best.

Originally, I was told that I'd be notified about The Vagina Monologues by 8pm yesterday. Then on Tuesday we got an email saying we'd be told by Thursday. So it's Thursday, no word, and no idea if they haven't told people yet, they told people and I didn't get cast or if there's an email snafu again. Meanwhile the only thing I know about the student film is that I have to be at a strip club in Brooklyn at like 8am on Sunday morning, which is funny in and of itself, but I'm hoping for details soon. Also at the party we had, the director told me he only called me in for an audition because of my last name. I've no idea what to think of that. Sweet guy though.

I've been trying to be really disciplined about my eating habits lately, because really, does anyone need three pieces of toast with butter and parmesean cheese right before bed? No. So far it's been working too. However, I'm discovering that even feeling the slightest bit hungry really freaks me out and that I eat, not just out of boredom, but like I'm trying to stop the bleeding. Now if I could just come up with some sort of workout plan, things would be cool.

P.S., Gavin Newsom, I hope you run for president someday. I can't figure out if this guy is amazingly savvy or just amazingly decent, but the grace with which he has handled all of this is astounding.

I always say that getting flowers in the office is the best gift EVER because not only do you get flowers but every other woman in the office gets jealous.

Getting earings at the office probably ranks right up there.

earrings=good!

How about posting a picture for the rest of us to ooh and aah over? Beats the sorority candle passing ceremony!

. . . I'm discovering that even feeling the slightest bit hungry really freaks me out and that I eat, not just out of boredom, but like I'm trying to stop the bleeding . . .

One of the axioms I'm taking with me into my post-atkins phase (I lost about 40 lbs on it over the past two years) is that of "If you are hungry, eat". Figure out ahead of time what you're going to eat when you get hungry. Preferably these would be things will make you feel full quickly and keep you feling full for a while, and also be things in accord with your general nutrition plan (whatever approach you're taking). If you can have a plan to deal with the unplanned . . .

Dunno if that's useful at all - hope so, though.

One of the interesting things Gavin is doing is showing up at crime scenes and pushing the cops to, you know, solve the crimes. This is pissing off the police, but it is endearing him to the mostly African American community which suffers from the most murders.

Here, Gavin isn't playing off the usual PC lines. He's not beating up on the cops for their racial profiling, other racism, or brutality. He's making sure, in a very public way, that they, you know, actually do their jobs! I find this tactic very impressive. It's a combination of Left/Right approaches I wish more people on the Left would adopt.

Gavin's sponsor, the super rich Getty, wants him to run for president. It may happen, you never know. But even gavin's worst enemies from the recent election are singing his praises now. That's quality politics, if nothing else.

Make a giant bowl of fresh, mild salsa. It's the least guilt inducing snack I know. I usually throw in roma tomato, green onion, cilantro, a clove of garlic and some lime juice, plus whatever peppers I feel like putting in.

Well yes. But that's half the fun right? Who needs drugs when all you have to do is eat salsa! :P

Gavin's savvy, but also isn't afraid to say whatever the hell he means and do what the hell he wants. I hven't agreed with all of his positions in the past; he's been kind of screwed up on the homelessness issue, for instance. I called him a moneyed Ken-doll when he got elected, but even if this is just a publicity stunt, he busted his own ass to do it.

I am trying to make myself drink a glass of water when I am hungry, and only then if I am still hungry am I allowed to eat something. Sometimes it works.
