Ipod -- everything on it is GONE.

More specifically all it does is flash a circle with a line through it and say "do not disconnect," which I've never seen it do before.

Will it know to restore automatically when I get home? I sort of have to disconnect it from this computer here, as I can't restore on here? Do I have to go to Tekserve? Why does this happen?

ETA: Weird, I button mashed and now it's fine.

If you have it all on your computer you should be able to put it back just by re-sync-ing it. (that word just looks funny any way I type it)

What kind/generation iPod?

Mine did this for a while.

It's having trouble connecting to itself, I think. If it's not young/been banged around you may want to back it up as you may be looking at hard drive failure in the near-ish future.

Mine has done this.

There is way to force a shut down of the Ipod, at least for my 30GB Video, by pressing the Menu and Middle at the same time until it turns off.

This is why I don't have an iPod. I have a Sansa, which I can sink through Windows Media Player, but which I can mostly just open as a flash drive and drag and drop. If it wipes itself (which it hasn't done, although my previous MP3 player did a couple of times), reloading it is not a big deal.

I hate iTunes even more than I hate WMP, which really is an accomplishment. That's like Stalin vs. Hitler.

That's bizarre, but glad to see you fixed it.

It's Mercury .. I have had no less than four customers in this week for the same thing .. they've all responded to the hard reset so far. Let me know if it doesn't ...

Button mashing: another word for careful application of percussive force :)

the button mashing was probably holding the menu and select buttons at the same time. doing that for three to five seconds works on most generations, I've found. mine does that if it has run completely out of juice and then been immediately synced.
