sundries

  • Rain, rain and more rain. It's finally supposed to be sunny again tomorrow, which is good as I think the plants are getting a little bored of this. The buds on the pepper have separated -- there are four, so hopefully there will be some interesting activity there soon. We're at three growing tomatoes and those other buds on the zebra, so hopefully we'll get some more new tomatoes going on around the end of next week. The other tomatoes are still too young for buds, and I'm picking up the last of the plants tomorrow.

  • The dress from Trashy Diva came in. It fits (thank god -- I wasn't actually sure my measurements were still the same) and it's much more a delicate thing than I had envisioned. It's less a startlet thing and more very thirties, very fragile, very (for those of you who have read the thing), dare I say it, Annie. Well, fuck, that's interesting. Maybe slicking back my hair and with some dark lipstick I can tart it up. Either way, I need to get some random stuff for my hair for it, because current haircut (which I still hate) is way too butch for it.

  • Which brings us to this weekend. Duchess Clothier is in town, and will be at Wit's End tomorrow and is having a fitting/sales thing on Sunday. I'm going to both. I own one suit. And I've got this new dress. And I'm all filled with consternation about it. I suppose I'll just have to take it as my mood comes on, but I need to get underpinnings for the dress, in case I do decide to wear it tomorrow. It may be lined, but it still needs a slip and a very 1950s bra. Also, New Yorkers, who is coming to what?

  • Patty gets home Monday or Tuesday (OMG, her family and planning -- hopefully we will learn things from each other as time goes on -- certainly, I think I am becoming more zen about this sort of stuff) and then her mom is staying around through Barn Dance!

  • Hey, my IMDB profile has been updated enough that there's now a schedule of when you (if you're in the States) can see me on your TV. That's a little weird. There is, of course, no need to go out of your way, as most of these things are brief if I'm visible at all. However, I do get residuals from Revolutionary Road so if you want to show it the love when the DVD release happens, I won't stop you.

  • The new Doctor Who companion has been chosen. She's cute, but, OMG, it's all so young. They better play up the Doctor's age, body aside. I'm just saying.

  • Is BBCAmerica really calling Torchwood fans "Torchies"? Really? But hey -- new online content: http://www.bbcamerica.com/content/262/index.jsp and the new trailer is AMAZING: (http://community.livejournal.com/torch_wood/4846412.html#cutid1)

  • Welcome, new people. Sometimes, I write smart stuff. Sometimes I write porny fanfic or talk about my illegal fire-escape garden. If you've got questions, feel free to ask 'em now. Meanwhile, I do actually read (or at least skim) my whole f-list, although I comment sporadically. It does take me a while to get to know names/icons/stories/etc. so if you'd like to introduce yourself here, you can do that too.

  • Just booked my WriterCon flights, which now means I've finished all con logistics for the rest of the year. That's AWESOME.

"She's cute, but, OMG, it's all so young. They better play up the Doctor's age, body aside. I'm just saying."

Looking at her and mentally placing her side by side with Matt Smith, I suddenly felt way too old for this show. I find I need some visible crow's-feet lately or I can't stay interested.

I wanted to see Wilf as the next companion. Take that, youngins!

Somebody else-LJ commented along the lines of "They'd better play up the Doctor's real age," with an implied "or else I'll stop watching." This is the second transition to a new Doctor that I've seen "realtime", as it were, and I'm very anxious about it. I never had any doubts about Tennant, but this new guy... so young. And trendy? Hrrm. ANXIOUS.

It doesn't help that I thought Tennant was delicious from the beginning, while this new guy... um, how do I put it kindly... has quite a bit of forehead, doesn't he? *cough*

I don't know why I find it so cool that I can find you on IMDB, but I do. I mean, I already knew that you were all professional-like, but now it's official. Your acting is srs bzns. XD

I'm feeling bizarrely optimistic about the new companion. I was expecting to be all bummed (TOO YOUNG! TOO PRETTY! TOO FEMALE! WHINE!) but for some reason when I saw her picture and it really just clicked. I still hope that she's not from present day London, though.

Torchies? Are you serious? That sounds like a nickname for space-herpes or something.

She also was in the Pompeii episode, apparently.

Your IMDB profile is so cool. Ahaha, I love how I link people to your posts all the time but never really comment on your entries. Not remotely a new person, but I'm reading! Hi!

From our respective 37-year-old POVs, both Matt and Karen are really damn young, and there is a slight fear on my part that the show will skew toward a younger audience when it restarts in 2010. I'm recalling the last time DW went after a much younger audience in the 1980s, which started off well with Peter Davison and his young companions, but really turned sour and painful during the first half of Colin Baker's run primarily due to horrid writing and acting. Steven Moffat has consistently been one of the best writers throughout the show's revival, so I have hopes that in spite of the return of leggings and shoulder pads, there won't be a full 80s revival going on.

Still sick and I now I think I have an eye infection which is just freakin great so I definitely won't make it to Wits End. I might make it to the Duchess thing but I'll have to keep you posted.

I have to say, up until now, I've been pretty meh about season 3 (bitter about Owen being killed off? Me? Nah!), but that trailer is actually grabbing my attention.

    [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 05:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I think the new trailer is crazy smart.

    Gwen! Gwen is AWESOME!

I really feel how much Jack relies on his team in it (so yes, there are things a man who can't die is afraid of... oh god).

It's just... really, really smart. i think it's going to be satisfying, even if it breaks my heart.

I am so tired of everything being repopulated by children. The new Dr and companion leave me wishing they'd just cancel the stupid thing and start over. Good to hear there's hope for Torchwood.

STFU! i loved that movie - i'll have to go watch it again and look for you

    [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-05-29 07:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I was in three different scenes.

    1. never made it into the movie at all (which is a shame, it was brilliant.

    2. another, I'm dancing in, but god knows, I wouldn't recognize myself in the outfit they had me in.

    3. Then I'm in the big hipster party thing (It was a hellish shoot and Bono was very funny and cool about it), but I'm pretty sure I'm not visible.

But, it's how I got into the union.

Your imdb profile looks great. Do you have colour headshots? If you need a hookup, my friend is in Reproductions, and she is really awesome about giving people deals.

I've been so wedding to my black and whites that Jinsey did for me. But it really is time for new ones and color now (that was still Not Done in New York when I got mine). I sort of have to decide on what the narrative is (and make this haircut suck less) before I do it. When I got my original ones done, this was all just a very crazy lark driven by some very crazy goals, but I knew when I did that shoot exactly who I was smiling for and who I was smiling as. But while the truth of that initial obsessive impulse remains, I'm a really different person now, but I'm not sure how to play it at the moment.

    You were in Fur!?!?
I fucking love that movie! Must rent it again in order to see you! :D

Wow, okay, I'm only 24 and the new Companion looks crazy young. Rose may have been 19, but she didn't really look it.
I'm really dreading the Regeneration, Ten in my Doctor too (I have three pairs of Converse All Stars... guess what colours).
The new Torchwood Trailer looks AWESOME! Gwen! *DIES*

Jack and Ten are awesome ex-bf superheroes and I'm taking this regeneration thing really seriously.

The new companion is pretty cute, but again, yeah, young...and I'm not that old, myself. I think I'd be more into it if they weren't pairing her with Matt Smith. I'm finding myself very lukewarm about him. I just can't get over David Tennant leaving, I think.

    Also, Torchies? *shudder*

Um, yes, hi. I've been lurking for a while now, since [livejournal.com profile] mellacita recced IHNIIHBT. I read the whole thing through in a weekend, and then was too overwhelmed to leave any comments. I'm thinking I should read it again a chapter at a time. Great stuff, anyway.

You do a lot of interesting things, and write interestingly about them. Your cosplaying and other sartorial adventures are so inspiring.

I hardly ever post at my journal these days. Quick profile: British, 52, maths undergraduate, broken-hearted lesbian, fuzzily genderqueer, vegetarian, depressive, Aspie, Trekkie, Woodie ("Torchies" be damned!).

I'm glad you enjoyed it and will pass the word on to Kali, who is always cheered by comments especially right now.

Hi! I'm new! I'm Azz! In the I-am-aware-of-you-but-you-are-probably-not-aware-of-me theatre funtimes, I had planned to run for the LJ Advisory Board last year, sometime after it was announced, but got Really Cold Feet and realized that no, I could not actually do this, before the election started; and in any case Support had gained a Director of Development who actually listened to support and user perspective. And in the absence of any other viable candidate from Support, Jen ran. And you ran too. I was glad that someone else prominent, competent, and sane was running.

As for me personally: I read, I write things that I haven't been comfortable enough with yet to consider attempting to publish, I write occasional reactions to current events (mainly current events on LJ), and chatter about my occasionally entertaining life. I am vaguely fannish and like computers.

    [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com 2009-06-03 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Hi, welcome. The LJ advisory board election was... not an experience I wish to repeat (note, I'm not running this year; only part of that is because I think the cause is less urgent this year). Consider yourself glad to have dodged a bullet. It was an unpleasant experience.

Hi and welcome. And just send your stuff out. Life is very random on those fronts and there's no moment where you'll know you're ready.
