Rain, rain and more rain. It's finally supposed to be sunny again tomorrow, which is good as I think the plants are getting a little bored of this. The buds on the pepper have separated -- there are four, so hopefully there will be some interesting activity there soon. We're at three growing tomatoes and those other buds on the zebra, so hopefully we'll get some more new tomatoes going on around the end of next week. The other tomatoes are still too young for buds, and I'm picking up the last of the plants tomorrow.
The dress from Trashy Diva came in. It fits (thank god -- I wasn't actually sure my measurements were still the same) and it's much more a delicate thing than I had envisioned. It's less a startlet thing and more very thirties, very fragile, very (for those of you who have read the thing), dare I say it, Annie. Well, fuck, that's interesting. Maybe slicking back my hair and with some dark lipstick I can tart it up. Either way, I need to get some random stuff for my hair for it, because current haircut (which I still hate) is way too butch for it.
Which brings us to this weekend. Duchess Clothier is in town, and will be at Wit's End tomorrow and is having a fitting/sales thing on Sunday. I'm going to both. I own one suit. And I've got this new dress. And I'm all filled with consternation about it. I suppose I'll just have to take it as my mood comes on, but I need to get underpinnings for the dress, in case I do decide to wear it tomorrow. It may be lined, but it still needs a slip and a very 1950s bra. Also, New Yorkers, who is coming to what?
Patty gets home Monday or Tuesday (OMG, her family and planning -- hopefully we will learn things from each other as time goes on -- certainly, I think I am becoming more zen about this sort of stuff) and then her mom is staying around through Barn Dance!
Hey, my IMDB profile has been updated enough that there's now a schedule of when you (if you're in the States) can see me on your TV. That's a little weird. There is, of course, no need to go out of your way, as most of these things are brief if I'm visible at all. However, I do get residuals from Revolutionary Road so if you want to show it the love when the DVD release happens, I won't stop you.
The new Doctor Who companion has been chosen. She's cute, but, OMG, it's all so young. They better play up the Doctor's age, body aside. I'm just saying.
Welcome, new people. Sometimes, I write smart stuff. Sometimes I write porny fanfic or talk about my illegal fire-escape garden. If you've got questions, feel free to ask 'em now. Meanwhile, I do actually read (or at least skim) my whole f-list, although I comment sporadically. It does take me a while to get to know names/icons/stories/etc. so if you'd like to introduce yourself here, you can do that too.
Just booked my WriterCon flights, which now means I've finished all con logistics for the rest of the year. That's AWESOME.
It's funny how colour quickly became "the thing" here, when before it was, as you said, "Not Done." Ideally, you'd have a legit shot and commercial shot.
You should consult with my friend Jordana about your narrative. She has a background in acting and directing, and she is very much the person that will ask you who you are as an actor and really get the shot that reveals the most. I've worked with a few of the really big name HS photogs here, but JZ is my favourite.
I still haven't seen Rev Road. SO worked on it as a Knox employee for a week or so. That's so fantastic that you are getting residuals. I think that's huge--congrats big time!
Ps. I'm actually liking your hair. You look really different than the cookie cutters that I see on set, and I think that classic beauty is really fabulous. You could be so many different roles.
But seriously, now that you have the credit on a huge film, do new headshots and a mailing!
I'm definitely going to keep the hair short, it's just complicated, because I can either be hip with it and playing like 25, since I can, but that's not really a route I want to go. It would be great, don't get me wrong, to be the tough, big breasted chick who gets to do action stuff, but I'm so not that person.
So the question then becomes how to sell the short hair as a nor 50-something woman.
The other issue is most of my work has been period stuff, right now it's too short for that. I'm even quietly seething because there's something new being shot for HBO set in the 20s and they are insisting all women have at least shoulder length hair for it, and I am confused by this "fact".
But I do need new shots. The old ones will be what I use for some things, they have such a specific character and are so vintagey, but I need something a bit more wry. I'm so fucking stately and mournful if I'm not careful.
You know what's really, really nice though? Being able to afford headshots without it being a big huge awful thing. Like yeah, it's a chunk of change, but I can still just do it.
