Buds on the pepper plant are opening, but no peppers yet.
There's been some animal interaction with the plants again -- an attack on the lavender has me worried for it, and something went after the dirt in the zebra tomato, but everything seems to be hanging in okay.
The basil 2.0 is thriving.

Date: 2009-06-10 09:25 pm (UTC)Oh, agreed completely - and while Jack's age & immortality superpower would certainly put any standard human at disadvantage, I suppose I was thinking more specifically about Ianto's personality-type - he's definitely content to be beta, rather than asserting himself directly contra to Jack - setting for the jewel, butler personality, or however you want to describe it. it's an entirely different sort of strength, and (credit to GDL) much harder to bring across onscreen, and I think he does an amazing job of it.
Jack, even with Nine, was never content to be background or "support" in quite the same way - he's just too big personality-wise. I actually think, horror of horrors, he might be as equivalent to Gwen as to Ianto. (And now I'm going to stuff that image back in a drawer and never look at it again.)
Re wankery: I suspected your post on patronage was probably about 6 times more interesting - has made me rethink some relationships in my own life. Glad to know I was correct in that assumption.

Date: 2009-06-10 09:29 pm (UTC)GDL is a great actor. I wish he was directed with more consistency in TW, but what can you do?
Anyway... I think you hit the nail on teh head. Ianto is comfortable being the behind the scenes guy. He's not waiting to have a different role. He's doing what suits him. Jack, with the Doctor, is struggling with what role he wants and is good at and all that. Ten knows how to give Jack room and also stay in charge of shit. Nine just made it really awkward and Jack was so into play acting that more beta role to him, I don't think he ever noticed what a mess that would eventually make, had he and Nine and Rose not been separated for other reasons. Nine was perfectly clear on the potential mess though, which was convenient to his own neuroses.
