  • I HAVE TO WRITE TWO ESSAYS RIGHT NOW AND STILL DON'T HAVE TOPIC IDEAS. HELP ME, OBI WAN KENOBI.

  • I dreamed an entirely different ending to Torchwood: CoE last night, except it was entirely the same plot-wise, it was just the style, production values, emotional tone of the same facts that was totally different at the end.

  • I have a cold.

Go on a three day sugar and caffeine bender. Maybe that will give you inspiration..if not put you into a diabetic coma. :0)

It worked for my thesis writing roomie in college..except for when she crashed. That wasn't pretty. But she got her thesis written and turned in, which was the ultimate goal.

I think just writing about a three day caffeine and sugar bender would be enough for at least one essay.

Oh man the stories! It'd be like that movie..The Hangover..only with sugar and caffeine.

Do you have a general sort of topical area that the essays are supposed to cover? Or is it truly wide open?

I know you write well about Australia and related issues. You might consider doing something there. You could also write something about bespoke tailoring as it currently exists, and how you might like to see it develop. (Or you could do something entirely different, of course, but those are two things that come to mind on very brief reflection.)

It's personal essay for an anthology, and I'm constrained from writing about tailoring or fencing as I'm working on pieces about those subjects for a different anthology.

You could write about your trip to Boston, and what it's like to be in a city where being gay is truly *accepted*, not just tolerated.

    I was thinking something similar.

Find one of the "pearls" from the GLAAD panel on gaming and resulting discussion on Kotaku.com.

But, Boston is probably a more fun topic :-)

OK, so bespoke is out though Australia might work. I hope some of your other readers have been able to come up with inspirational ideas. If you're still looking for some I'll cogitate on it a bit more, but given the size of your readership I'm guessing you have more than enough now.

Write about Dr Who- it's weird enough to be interesting.
Write about why you stopped doing something salacious- it's kinky and personal enough to be interesting.

    Different how? Any less gutting?

Less gutting re: Jack's narrative I think -- same stuff happens, but you get the sense he's going to be okay and the end in my head was sort of one of those big epic swells of music montage things as opposed to what we actually got.

The topics I am currently writing essays on for some very interesting summer classes: princesses and outlaws, the redhead as monstrous, the appearance of the monstrous in the music of the Mountain Goats, libertarian feminism, and fandom's fascination with fairy tale tropes.

Are you including The Fountainhead and Atlas Shrugged in the redhead piece? Feanor?

The essay's actually focused mostly on Tom Robbins' Still Life with Woodpecker, but I'm bringing in monstrous redheads from other works, too, including The Fountainhead. Feanor's a good one, too, thanks!
