Does Jack ever get to leave anywhere in victory? Does he ever get to just take the hand of his lover and say "fuck it, let's get outta here" and start a new life somewhere else not because things are awful, not because he's broken and alone, but just because it's time?

I really want someone to write this fic. Requires a totally compelling, well-drawn complex OC. A moment from Jack of thinking about how much he wishes he could've got the chance to do such a thing with people now lost to him (Ianto, hi!) an extra bonus.

Bittersweet wonders of the universe fic! Someone? Anyone?

Er, I think what I meant to say is that this is really cool, and if I thought I could do it justice, I'd hit it.

Heheheh. I might do one eventually myself, but my list is so long right now, and I really want to see what other people do with it.

I know how you feel. My list is legion, and brain worms like this keep infecting my skull. You are an enabler. Ir something. Patient zero?

I might try it on for shorthand and see what happens as an exercise. It would be interesting to see how other people deal with the issue of "running away" in a sense.

I think it's a mathematical certainty, and thus a given, that he will have time for many long, uneventful lives, with someone dear. They are plenty of periods of history coming when that will be possible.
When Jack stops being 'human' by any reasonable measure, he will have to lose every aspect of humanity, including the best. To lose all, he has to have all.

Ye Gods, seriously! Torchwood has been a steadily escalating series of season-ending exercises in JACK CAN'T DIE SO LET'S TORTURE HIM HORRIBLY AND BREAK HIM INTO LI'L PIECES INSTEAD YAY!! and it so doesn't have to be that way. Okay, I can get behind set-ups for crossovers and multi-episode dramatic arcs and all, but does it always have to end with Jack being more fucked up than before?

Yesplease, that fic.

...good point. That's the same gripe I've had with certain arcs of the EDA novellas, except for "Jack" substitute "Eight". There are ways of creating action, adventure, and drama, that don't involve tearing your protagonists completely to pieces.

Maybe that's how (or why) he became the Face of Boh. I mean he did have all those kids.

There's a short story in Callahan’s Crosstime Saloon, by Spider Robinson, called “A Voice Is Heard in Ramah,” about a centuries-old woman who tells her (very, very long) life story to the habitués of the titular bar. She acknowledges that she sounds like a hard-luck case but assures them that she’s known a lot of joy, despite surviving numerous wars and various other hardships (including one husband who killed their children and committed suicide after learning about her longevity) — but its the awful bits that stick out in the retelling.

Oh.

Yes.

This.

Semi-sorta-only-in-that-it-mentioned-TW related... Husband was listening to some podcast last night, some gamer thing. Someone wrote in and mentioned TW, the gist of which was, "There's this immortal guy that goes around fucking everybody and thing and that seems to be the reason for the show. Girl, boy, alien, dead, ghost, he does 'em all."

After my eyerolling stopped, finally, I thought, "Well, if you're immortal, there's probably very little else you can do to have new experiences."

Then I thought of something really cool, but don't remember what it was, dammit. I need to learn to write stuff down. :/

Joonscribble: Into the Wide Blue Yonder. Maybe. It's a "because it's time" fic, not a "leaving in victory", and it's too short (little plot, no OCs, my most common complaint), but it's happy. No

There are two "Gridlock" fix-its I know of that might qualify, but only, I guess, if one disliked the "Face of Boe" thing. Also, not strong on the plot side, but running with what is there.

I did a drabble with your plotbunny...
