Still obsessed with Movits! How great is this shit? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LnaeImQ0TSg In the realm of appalling, the lead singer reminds me of the goofy boy I went to my senior prom with too. Anyway, do you not totally want to dance to this shit? It makes me want to choreograph again.
Right, so... I'm back in that "not enjoying conversations about CoE" place. Some of that is my own fault. I don't think I've actually been any more abrasive and forceful than usual, but current fandom discourse requires a hand more delicate than I am interested in or capable of having. I'm aggravating other people, aggravating myself and disappointing myself as well. So... backing away a little bit, even though I've stumbled on more than a few things this morning that I honestly feel like I want and should address very loudly. If it really matters, I'll come back to it.
I'm in my pre-travel stressed-out acting like an asshole phase. Okay, it's not quite as bad as all that, but I'm, as noted above, not pleased with myself, and Patty's had to be pretty patient the last couple of days. She makes everything better.
So does a lovely dinner with her last night at L'Express.
Men's shoe's for girl's feet.... help me out folks. Where do you shop? I need a good pair of dress shoes, to the point that I'm really over my perfectly adequate making do solutions. I wear a 7.5 in women's sizes .... meaning boy's shoes don't go up high enough in size, but my feet are still tiny.
Also shopping: Where the hell does one buy DVDs in NYC now that Virgin and Tower both closed?
My feet are a women's size 8 so I feel your pain. All of my dress shoes have the laces drawn so tight the eyes touch.
The best fit I've found was Moo Shoes. Vegans have narrow feet, go figure. The styles for their dress shoes are pretty conservative so don't expect anything fancy. Just basics.

I think Kim's down in the East Village may still have a few items (they consolidated a lot of their stock when their uptown video store closed), but yes, if you don't want to buy online you're increasingly out of luck.

This. :/ I had a membership thing at Suncoast years ago, but their prices were kinda all over the map depending on what you wanted. God, is Suncoast still around, even? I haven't shopped IRL for DVDs in forever aside from the random dollar kung fu movies in pharmacies.
Seconded. Both my boys are well into men's sizes (9 and 12 respectively) but when Wal-Mart failed us on the shoe front, because they were between boys and men in size, we hit Payless.
I heard Borders was doing away with there in store DVD and CD section. Something about not making enough money. They're still going to carry new releases, but that's it. At least, that's what the people at my local Borders told me.
Zappos.com has men's shoes in size 5 and up. Women's shoes are generally two numbers different, so a man's size 5.5 should fit you. This is a decent page at About.com covering the availability of small men's shoes.
Also, fortunately, current smart men's shoe designs (at least on this side of the pond) have several wasted inched that no toes could get into, so it won't be so obvious if they're too large (as in http://pics.livejournal.com/meirion/pic/000fx3f0/s640x480 frex).
I've gone over entirely to Zappo's for shoe buying. Although I apparently can't wear men's shoes at all now, according to my podiatrist -- too wide :( So I fake it and/or buy a lot of unisex styles.
Do you have Future Shop in NYC, or is that a Canadian chain.(I don't know because just about every chain up here is U.S., except for the ones that aren't. It's kind of ridiculous, in that every U.S. chain tries to hide its nation of origin, even when it's perfectly obvious. Canadian chains, except for a few like Canadian Tire, don't trumpet their nationality, because they hope to be bought out by a U.S. firm.) Future shop, if available has good selection, and often has completely geeky things like everything Buffy in one package, or both Tribble Star Trek episodes packed with a real live tribble(humour me)plus non-obvious non-NA stuff I have never seen elsewhere. Which is a totally useless piece of intel if they aren't around.
*hugs* on the CoE thing, I apologize if I accidentally stirred up more unhappiness in your head. I find wank fascinating in a meta sense, but normally not enough to roll around in it like a pig in mud.
I do appreciate your continued cogent and thoughtful postings on the subject. :D as I said, it helped me process a great deal of my own grief up front, so I was able to watch Days 4 and 5 with a tolerably composed heart.
Video was amazing! I have to pass it on to my Swedish speaking Finn pal.
Shoes, I have big feet so I have often worn men's shoes but since they never fit right I have become used to adding insoles, wedges, and all sorts of layers socks to get them right. I have a pair of boots with a specially designed pair of socks - thin one on the left foot, skouchy one on the right - so they fit well.
Maybe shopping armed with noce thick Dr. Scholes but be worth a try?
I've found a lot of men's shoes are smaller than they claim to be, presumably because the chaps are anxious about having small feet, so it's always worth trying the bottom size. You never know.

Good luck with the travel stuff, that kind of thing is always energy draining.

And duly noted! I have narrow feet myself, which means it's heck on wheels to get shoes I like even going to the ever-obliging Harry's.

In my opinion, you've handled yourself just fine in any COE discussions I've seen. Don't blame you for a minute for wanting to step back, though.

i had great luck at Bass stores. not only did they have small men's sizes but many of the women's shoes are in (true) men's oxford/dress style.
i wish i had kept them all but i sold them on ebay when i went back to stilettos. ;-)

2 - i'm a bit over discussing by this point, time for me to move on! i don't even want to know what happened at SDCC
3 - my grandma used to get severe travel anxiety and i think she passed it to me :(
this is why i hate planning things
4 - i have huge feet, so i can't help you there
