Tranformative work.
Interstitial work.
Collaborative work.

This is the stuff I live for, kids. And I love so much that I got to be a part of this one... Once upon a time, someone made a TV show. And then someone wrote some fanfiction. And then someone else made some art for that fanfiction. And then I sang.

Stuff! (with links and downloads. Sane people with download the mp3; crazy people who understand how much is lost in a conversion to .mp3 from .wav will go for the .wav).

OMG I am right there with you. I love you, I love fandom, I love livejournal, I love everybody.

If you could just see the big damn goofy grin on my face...

(I'll change the link to point here.)

Oh eeee.

It seems to be rare that transformative works get their own transformations (the only two instances I can think of are Copperbadge's "Trying to Communicate and its icons, or [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza's "Written by the Victors" and the whole Victorsverse spinoff art/music), but I go YAY every time.

Waaaaaay back I had an HP fic that someone started writing fic off of because of an OFC in it they liked.

And [livejournal.com profile] laurab1 does a lot of art for fic.

This is entirely marvelous -- the story, the art, your voice. All of it. Just glorious. Thank you.

This is pretty much why I love fandom. Communication and creativity of art through a common love of, as you say, stuff.

At a certain point, when my life is less insane and I have more time to read what I want and not what I must (Is a lowly poor student alas!) I want to start writing fic again... reading what I wrote for Star Trek ten/seven/five years ago is just painful.

Still awesome though :)

yum.

and, hi, I had never heard you sing before. how wrong is that?

I don't really sing in front of people. I was told for most of my life that I was a terrible singer, then as an adult I took lessons and discovered I was a soprano with a huge belt and a really weird quality to my voice, and I'm still working on being able to do it in front of people.

So. Perfect.

Thank you for recording this. I cried at the original and I'm choked up again.

This reminds me of Eowyn singing at the funeral in Two Towers.

Did you make up the music? It has a lullabyish quality to it. I wonder, do you sing mostly in chest voice / belt? Because the teeny bit of what sounds more likes head voice at the very end makes me think you should be developing both chest and head.

Yup. Made up the music. I'm actually a very pretty little soprano (something I only discovered a couple of years ago when I started taking voice lessons), but am waaaaaaaay more comfortable in my chest voice

Yup. Made up the music.

I like.

I'm actually a very pretty little soprano

Yeah, hold that thought, rather than the "really weird quality" you think you have. FWIW (I used to sing semiprofessionally and review opera - and didn't start till I was probably about your age, though I've always sung), I don't hear the latter. Most of us know our recorded speaking voices sound odd to us, but many people don't realize the same holds true for our singing voices.

OTOH, if someone has told you your voice has a weird quality, it may just mean you don't sound like all the other pretty little sopranos - who, face it, are a dime a dozen (I should know; I'm one).

That came out wrong - sounds like I'm denigrating you and myself. Not. (Though, yeah, I'd give a lot to be a mezzo.)

That was beautiful.

I just finished watching--all three seasons, this weekend (thank God for DVDs) and read Sandy "In Perpetuity" last night. Now you have taken the phrase, the touchstone and made it into something more tangible, something audible that pulls at the heartstrings and yanks at the gut and...OH.

Then I went and joined Torchwood comms, so I could read more fic. Why didn't anyone ever tell me? If I would have known about Torchwood, my username might have been jackslittleteaboy, you know?

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. For the song, for the fandom rec, for all of it. You helped my inner scifi geek find something that was missing for far too long.

*hums*

I thought it did, too.

It gave me shivers. It's a fantastic story anyway, but what a wonderful addition.

Your voice is great, rm. I can't sing a lick. :)

Oh, my goodness, how totally wonderful and eerie!
I will return to this moment in space-time whenever Fandom seems to be made of suck, to remind me of why I think it's awesome.

I hadn't realised how many bytes were lost in conversion, until I saw the numbers. Add me to crazy list.

Thank you yet again for reminding me who Jack is. It matters.

You know about [livejournal.com profile] torchwood_house, right? Good way to find the classics or at least some good stuff before wading out free-range. (I'm biased, as I'm a member and I've been recc'd and totally hope you'll read the 200,000 word epic Kali and I did).
