How does this work? (me futzing with the camera while Patty laughs)

Yay! (Patty and I, slightly blurry)

I'm sure everyone takes this shot, but we were sorta awed by it. I love wacky place-names like this.

with AXL at the Torchwood/Doctor Who wake at WriterCon. Yes, the baby's initials are AXL, I'm not even kidding. Also, baby was strong and kept trying to climb on my shoulder! AXL brought to you by [livejournal.com profile] miep and [livejournal.com profile] cozzene.

the post-it fic written by [livejournal.com profile] miep, [livejournal.com profile] kalichan, [livejournal.com profile] invisible_lift and I that SOMEONE will post SOMEDAY.

Future city!

Okay, it's not a dragon, but a bird, but can I use this crazy habitrail town as an inspiration for New Cardiff though? please?

Future city!

Future city!

Future city (there is, btw, in this and one other shot a fountain in the ceiling that rains down into that atrium, but you have to look closely and at the larger versions to see it).!

OMG, I love babies. I have baby time in two weeks and I just went shopping for her. (By "baby time" I mean I'm meeting my friend's baby for the first time. I just realized how incredibly weird "baby time" sounded.)

V. important question: how do the zebra tomatoes taste?

Whales! Yay, whales!

I'd rather ride the train to Wonderland than Cockfosters.

Also out on the Blue Line is East Boston, which mixes various neighborhoods that hate the airport with the airport. Also, there's a 35 foot tall statue of the Madonna sculpted by an Italian Jew.

BABBY! BABBY!

As an non-USAian... what is Future City? I'm assuming it's the name of that compound... or something.

And that Bird-not-a-dragon looks like a Phoenix to me.

Actually, it's just Minneapolis. Which Team Torchwood (Kali, Lifty and I) started calling Future City! and couldn't stop while we were there. Basically, it gets so fucking cold there in the winter that a huge swathe of the downtown city is all on the second floor of buildings and there are skyways between them all; not sure how much actual ground it covers, but it has to be miles of walkways. So you're strolling at ground level and you can't find a cash machine or anything, but then you go up, and all the buildings connect and that's where the banks and the shops and the fast food and the dry cleaners and everything is, and then you get to various office buildings and they have these atriums with multiple stories where there will be more restaurants and stuff.

Truly weird.

(and thank you! It's all that one suit now... I'm going to be so grateful to have my hands on the second one in a week -- also, shirts! yay! although got save me from my fandom should I ever wear the pinstripe suit with the plum shirt I ordered.)

Ooooh, now I feel like I'm in on a big secret... with the rest on the interwebs :P
I hear Montreal also has that kind of underground infrastructure because of the cold. It's a major reason I cannot contemplate Canada as a place to live in the future... though maaaaaybe it is!

(Are you thinking of cosplaying Ianto off the cuff - hahah - if that happens? Or will it just be too painful to contemplate... damn, getting teary eyed)

I just... I don't have the affect for it... I mean, I could probably do it, economy of motion and all, but, doesn't go with my natural way of being at all.

And yeah... I'm so _so_ glad to be getting the suit in person at my fitting, as I was thinking about the big giant box the first was was shipped in and I was feeling a bit not okay about that. How geeky.

See, MNP's thing works better than Montreal's because there is light! Montreal's underground is, in fact, underground. And I'm pretty sure that MNP gets waaaaaay colder. Which is a shame, because it's really an exquisite city with a perfectly hot summer.

I wore Jack and Ianto on my tits (for they live on a very tight shirt) for the one day Con we had last week with a rainbow sticker that said "Tolerance is not a Fantasy".

How Geeky - I get it.

*nods* fucking tell me about it. Once I'm done with all my Uni assignments *weeps, will they never end* I might write something semi-academic and try and read it at either the big Sci-Fi Con or the Queer Studies Con later in the year.

That weeks deserves to be spoken about forever!

I think I heard it's like 33 linear miles that are connected via the skyways. It's about 6 blocks by 11 blocks of buildings that are on the connection routes.

When my nephew was a little guy (he'll turn 26 next month) I adopted a whale for him for Christmas. He got a photo of the whale's tail with it's markings and a newsletter several times a year. I kept it up for awhile. I even picked one that had a habit of being around the whale watch boats in case my brother ever had a chance to take him on a watch cruise.

I think made the biggest hit when he went back to school after the holiday break and said his aunt got him a pet whale for Christmas!

Tomatoes! I've harvested 5 off the cherry tomato plant which are ripening in a bowl, there are 4 in progress on another plant that are about the size of yours (I'm not sure how big they get so I'm waiting for them to get ripe on the vine and then I'll know) and the beefsteak has two eensie weensie ones on it. SO EXCITING.

You and Patty are adorable, as always.

It's illegal to put anything on fire-escapes, but they are the only outdoor space we have, so we have an illegal container garden out there.

I have to mention two things...

1. I cannot believe AXL didn't grab your glasses right off your face.

2. The future city pictures are from inside the I.D.S. tower. In the last 12 years three people have fallen 50+floors and crashed through all that glass. A finger actually rolled inside the camera store I used to work for on the first floor. Was gross...I heard...had the day off.

From: [identity profile] rm.livejournal.com
Did people fall or jump? We had talked about that walking around... in NYC there would be high walls.

Date: 2009-08-16 03:39 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] cozzene.livejournal.com
My understanding is that 2 were accidents and the one with the finger in the store was a suicide/purse snatching as he was running away. Witnesses said he bounced more than 10' off the floor when he hit next to the pool that catches the fountain water. I was thrilled not to be there that day.

Yes, I think that's one of the three I was thinking about, but perhaps more recent that I kept up with. Now that the camera store is closed I don't have the gossip mill I used to.

Glad you enjoyed our town! The habitrails took me a long time to get used to when I moved here, but after a while it seems really natural. The hardest part was trying to navigate, as there are obviously no street signs on the 2nd floor, so you can get turned around and not know where you are rather quickly, especially when you go through Macy's. Were you downtown on Thursday during the farmer's market?

(Potentially not that interesting trivia note: the balcony of the IDS Crystal Court with all the ivy-like plants hanging down? In the opening credits of the Mary Tyler Moore Show.)

Also, while you are a striking and beautiful woman, in these pics you are a smokin hot guy. I don't mean that in a gender-insensitive manner; you just look like a very handsome man.

Thank you! That's what I'm going for when I wear the suit, so that's fabulous to hear.

I didn't get into MNP until late Thursday, so I missed that, but [livejournal.com profile] miep took us walking around on Friday and we saw free music and a wacky fountain. I was sort of inordinately fond of all of it.

Ooo, which wacky fountain? We have a bunch of them. Was it over by Orchestra Hall, with big bronze tube-column things? Or the one that looks like a giant dandelion made of water?

I think the crazy bird inside Gaviidae looks like a pterodactyl, therefore entirely suitable for any manner of Torchwood fic!

I hope you'll come back one day; I would love to meet you and have a coffee.

Wondering if you had the time to wander through the Guthrie in the late wee hours, sit out on the ledge overlooking the river? The theater is better explored when closed - the ghost images and architecture are interesting without many living bodies milling around.
I love 'cat walk' city (my own version of Future City). I live 2 hours away from, and am always impressed how respectful all are considering the walkways, many, are open 24 hours - no vandalism. Love the twin cities folk.
