Sadly, this dress is cut 1.5" smaller than the size listed on the site says, and will not fit me, because while I'm quite slim, I do not actually have a 23" waist (although I suppose there are underpinnings that could make that happen).

So, I still need a "I'm only cosplaying in my head" dress for Dragon*Con. I'm currently considering:

a) this or this, although I worry a little about how the red would look on me.

b) this because OMG. It also seems to be not in stock yet. Which is a potential issue if this is really about D*C.

C) this, eventhough I shouldn't because it's expensive and gives me conflicted feelings about the orientalist decor of my grandparents's house in my childhood, which is one of those things I should take the time to write about.

HELP ME INTERNETS!

Also, why is it every, single time I find the perfect retro dress with white and navy blue polkadots, it's immediately not available in my size?

Anything but the red.

And that green one demands saddle shoes!

What about this one (http://www.modcloth.com/store/ModCloth/Womens/Dresses/The+Breathless+Dress+In+Starry+Night)?

Sadly, not a shape that's going to do me any favors. I'm really, really sort of nutty about structure in dresses unless they are very long and very drapey. But, I salute you for hunting the polkadot for me.

I like your first alternate - I think it would look smashing on you. The red is lovely, but I share your concern about how it would look on you. The Sweetie dress got a "meh" out of me, and the last one got an "oh, gods, no!".

So, there you have it - opinion, totally unasked for :D

Very fresh.

I love trashydiva.

I have an old Betty Dress (read, not running small). It hasn't fit - quite - since the last baby. Hopefully it will fit sometime after this next baby is out in the world. I miss it.

Um, getting back to the point, I like A. Not in red.

I like b very much, a felt very meh to me, but of those two I think the black/off white would be nicer. Like someone else, c made me think 'oh god, no'.

Another vote for a). The collar detail is what does it for me.

I like A (in black) and C. But I'm biased because I'm partial to black and dark colors.

I like (a) in black, worn with red shoes and accesories.

With (b) I like the wooden buckle but I'm not so much a fan of the wooden buttons. It would be a great deck dress on a cruise.

I'll keep my eyes out for a blue/white polka dot dress.

I'm also going to cast a vote for A in black, as I totally fell in love with the OTHER dress on that site in that fabric (http://www.trashydiva.com/trashydiva/sugarblkemb1a.JPG).

Also, do you know Revamp Vintage? Repro clothing from your era (and others), mens and womens. Cater to the swing crowd. Have friend who has ordered in plus-size stuff remote (I did muslin fitting for this dress for her), and the workmanship is QUITE good.

Am I the only one who likes (a) in red? I think it has enough black details on it to not be to overpowering.

Ugh, why must my flist keep showing me all these amazing retro online stores! There's no shopping (or very little with anything reasonably priced that isn't chain) in my city, but I've never bought clothes off the internet.

While I've never seen you in red, I would think you would look rather stunning in it. As long as it wasn't an orangey red, which is hard to tell from a photo.

I love that last dress, but it it's going to make you uncomfortable by association, I would pass. Why buy something you can't really enjoy?

You have a tailor but do you have a dressmaker?

A decent dressmaker ought to be able to whip out something like your first choice relatively easily and quickly (not more than a day's worth of work depending on how hard the ruching in the back took to get right) for about what that dress costs more or less. (Less if you came in with a pattern; a bit more if I had to draft the pattern from scratch.)

OH man, I had sorta of settled on getting the black and honey dress and the green dress, and now I'm looking at this: http://www.daddyos.com/retro/epr33.html and trying to decide whether to surrender on the black & honey or the green.
