Were you a Firefly fan when the show actually aired? Were you still in the fandom when Serenity came out? If so, I need to pick your brain, fairly briefly, about fan reactions to Wash's death, because I need to know sorta what went on in the fandom as support or a counterpoint to an abstract I'm working up. Are you going to be at Dragon*Con? Do you still need to get a copy of The Book of Harry Potter Trifles, Trivias and Particularities? I find it vaguely unfair that you look better in a suit than I do. Then again, you look better in a dress than I would as well so I guess I shouldn't be too upset. ;-)

Yes to the first two questions. It's safe to say that Wash's death -- as well as the overall craptastic movie surrounding it -- is the reason I'm a Firefly fan, but not a Serenity one.

I'm in. In fact, I was part of a private Buffy-centered (later Whedon-centered) board at this date. I let the kids stay up for the midnight fan-only premiere screening; they considered this an enormous treat.

Dude, I loved Serenity. Also watched the show when it first aired and liked it, and have the DVDs. We went to see Serenity the day after I got back from Katrina work and I managed to stay awake for the whole thing (this was a big accomplishment as I basically slept for four straight days). Although I was not one whit involved w/ an online fandom for it, so maybe I don't fit.

I like both the dress and the suit! Awesomesauce!

I was heavily involved in the fic-writing side of Firefly fandom from January 2003 onward, and have... not exactly glowing thigns to say about "Serenity" (I saw both a preview screening, and saw it in theatres several times and he movie signalled the end of my Firefly fan-writing).

Not at all. I love to see folks and could use all the support I can get for my HP thing, as academic presentation = scaaaaaaaaaaaaary. Also, that panel is one of the few where (I think, I won't be sure until the pocket program comes out) that I don't immediately have to run to the other side of the con right after to do something else. Absolutely! I'll be posting my final schedule when it comes out on Wednesday, and I'll also note which ones I have time before or after, as I'm scheduled very tightly in a few places.
