Ocean Grove

An octosquid-flapper-mermaid mural in one of the gutted buildings on the Asbury Park boardwalk.

The old carousel house in Asbury Park. Now home to The Full Monty and random gun shows.

bird!

wooden pylons I initially mistook for a graveyard.

Meant 'n' More! Seriously, how could I not photograph the Meat 'n' More?

Ocean Grove Fishing Club on the pier

Boat out at sea. Yay zoom lens.

Remnants from the Asbury Park attractions can now be found in this restaurant supply store. It's creepy.

Decrepit kids ride outside of restaurant supply store.

The mermen of tackiness! (I tried to shop for some of you all, but it was closed!)

More mermen of tackiness!

Oh god, that apron! Over the mer-tail! I am humbled by the sheer unbridled absurdity. The flapper mermaid's wonderful, though.

(Can't resist footnoting: Bird is a crow, flowers are petunias.)

The Asbury ones are so sad. We spent every summer going to the carousel and the other rides and stuff. I grew up in Bradley Beach.

I've seen those tacky mermen before, I can't decide if they're awesome or hideous.

It's nice to see the old carousel house is still there, but sad that the carousel is not. It was a cool place when I was a kid. With some of the old style arcade machines.

Oh my gods, I totally want a tacky merman.

This is yet more proof I need to make a trip to the East coast sometime in the next twelve months.
