I remember paying $20 (which was no small amount of money at the time) in 1985 to make a three-minute call to my best friend while on a flight to Italy. Weird parental treat -- I think they wanted to see how it worked and didn't have any friends themselves.
Now THAT is amazing and a weird change of technology.
Still remember about 13 years ago being on a plane, where most (possibly no? Faint memory here) cellphones would not work in the air as they did not have the flight mode.
Several ppl on my flist have mentioned this over the last few days. Awesome. It makes me giggle, though, because I keep picturing the TCP/IP packets scrambling madly after the flying plane. "Wait! Wait! I'm supposed to connect here!"
Anyway, it's very cool. I've just gotten adjusted to pretty much expecting wireless at airports, and it just gets better...
