DVD ordering

Let's say I think Amazon is evil and I have bad past history with things from Deep Discount DVD just getting lost.

Who do I order DVD's from?

At the moment, particularly looking for good prices on Whoniverse (new series) stuff.

Who North America has some of the new stuff (and old stuff!) at discount. I've not shopped with them but know people who've had good experiences with them.

Well, there is CDUniverse.com, Target.com, Overstock.com (tho' they lost a microwave on me), Barnes & Noble- I think bn.com.

Oh, and if you are a member, ColumbiaHouse.com. Not bad, once you get through the commitment part. Good prices on stuff.

If I think of anything more, I'll let you know.

Try HMV, they ship internationally.

Oh neat! I'd been looking for a Europe-friendly Amazon alternative, and HMV looks quite good, so thanks! :)

[livejournal.com profile] rm, I'd like to unrecommend Play.com. I've been a customer since 2002, and they used to be quite good, with excellent customer service where you would send an email and a real person would answer within hours, but it's gone down the drain now :/ My last orders have either taken more than a month to arrive, or never arrived at all, and now to contact customer service you need to phone in, to a phone number that's never worked for me. Quite annoying.

My pleasure. Another Europe-friendly Amazon alternative: The Book Depository, which ships free internationally.

Thanks! I'd found them already, and so far I'm quite happy with the service :) Btw, had you seen this live map of what's being bought where? It's fascinating!

Another online timesink! :-)

I love the Book Depository, but thought they only did books.

I think so. She said Amazon substitutes, though, so HMV for media and that for books covers it all.

DVDEmpire.com or K2DVD.com are generally my backups when Amazon's not an option and DDD doesn't stock it.

I'm a fan of DVDEmpire.com, too (as well as their adult site, AdultDVDEmpire.com--mostly mainstream stuff, but a small indie selection, and great prices).

http://www.mikescomics.com/DVD1.html

We always try to price match and / or beat prices on Amazon, wherever possible, which is why we list what our MAXIMUM price is, next to the retail price.

We've had fewer than 10 lost or damaged parcels in our 33 years in business.

And we're cuter than Jeff Bezos.

Cool, I didn't know you guys carried DVDs. I'm happy to order from friends. Is there an online order form, or do I just need to email y'all?

Yeah, the "Mike's Comics" name does tend to throw folks off. But DOCTOR WHO has been our niche for many a moon.

There's no shopping cart, the reasons for which are complicated and amusing, but which actually work to the customer's advantage. So ordering by e-mail or via telephone are the best methods.

You can either use the e-mail link on the site, or else get in touch with me directly at patty at mikescomics dot com. Phone number is 508-756-9836, between 10AM and 9PM. You'll either get Michael or me most days, with an occasional intern if we've got huge shipments scheduled.

Cool. I know you guys did action figures and stuff, but I only tend to ever get those as con impulse buys, but I had no idea you had the DVDs.

Anyway, dropping you an email in a bit and then will paypal or call in with cc as needed.

awesome.

Oh, we have many, many WHO lines. The action figures and toys get an undue share of attention, but we have audio dramas, books, calendars, and various nifty odds and ends [everyone needs a Jon Pertwee bookmark standee!].

And YOU are the awesome one. Return e-mail on its way.

... do you guys ship to APO addresses?

Re: Self-promotion, only somewhat shameless

[identity profile] norda.livejournal.com 2009-09-18 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes, we can for most items - we ship worldwide. Some restrictions do apply due to varying licensing agreements we hold with our vendors, but please feel free to drop me a note. Thanks!

I don't know if these folks will have what you're currently looking for, but they've got really nifty movies and such:

http://www.bbcamericashop.com will have everything that's been released for Region 1, but will probably fail you on good pricing.

Powells.com

Plus - you can get books. :D
